This is a lovely story, and I was moved, especially by this -- "I knew I could break the ice to talk to people simply by giving something non-threatening to them. So I started making origami animals out of colored paper, which was something I had learned way back in sixth and seventh grade, or even earlier. Every animal probably only cost about two cents, but they made children smile, and in return, their parents would often smile and be more open to talking."
Okay, now I want some of those origami animals too. (*grin*) Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your super review and the generous six star rating. I can still make bunny rabbits, cranes, rattler-cobras, and frogs. Everything else will take some reviewing.

I'll have the bunnies and cranes, please...(*grin*) You are very welcome!

I'm sure breaking the ice to talk with people about their faith would be difficult. I'm happy to learn the origami animals helped. Thank you for sharing this Faith Flash contest entry with us. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you for your service. This is lovely that you have your father's voice on several recordings. At one time my Comcast program allowed us to read or hear or see what the message was. Now there is no such luxury. If there were, I would be saving many of my friends' voices. One recently passed and I said "oh maybe I have her voice somewhere" but I don't think I do. I haven't checked see if I have it a saved my message that would be so cool if I do. But with the other one I was able to save a message from my former partner who has also since passed. I can just go on and listen to her voice if I want to.

Interestingly, you came from Puerto Rico. We boarded a cruise there years ago. We were on the ship for about eleven days. I was glad to get on solid ground again.
I'm sure missionary work is rewarding but also a little trying at times. Many have loved this kind of work, as well as you and your dad did.

Thank you for your great comments. I only spent about sixteen months in Puerto Rico, all told, way back from December 1990 to May 1992.

How delightful that you have recordings of your father's voice that you can play anytime you feel the need. Thank you for sharing his background and yours as well. It's wonderful that you keep up your Spanish-language skills and your Puerto Rican cooking
