This is a vitally important story that needed to be told. John is an inspiration and so sad about the heartache in his life. You were a great friend to him and provided true friendship to him in his final years. The part about his past as a slave is so shocking. It reminds the reader that slavery still exists in the modern world. Excellent writing and best wishes for the contest.

Hello Again, Many thanks for reading, and yes, it is a story that needs to be exposed. The whites need to pay for their greed. Love, Kay xx

This is a beautiful story with engaging detail. I could easily envision John at 90 years old with brown skin and white hair. I'm glad you were kind and shared food with him, and showed interest in his life that day. This story is so well written, I could almost feel your empathy. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Hello little butterfly, I was a story that needed to be told. Slavery in Aust. in the 1900s, who would have thought? So many died. Take the man away from his country and he will wither and die. Thank you. K xx

You have done a good service by writing this excellent story about the history of those islanders whose good life was taken from them. I am glad knowing that John was able to die remembering the uplifting experience that happened to him because of your kindness toward others.

The only suggestion I can make is to enlarge the font on future postings so that they are easier for others to read. It is very simple to do and I think a lot of members would then read more of the longer postings.

Thank you for sharing this heartfelt true story, Kay!

Hello Lily, Many thanks for reading. It was a story that needed to be told. Fancy slavery in Australia. in the 1900s. The whites needed a lesson. Just like stealing the Africans for your cotton feilds. K xx

This is a touching story. John was an amazing man to not become bitter because of what happened to him. Obviously, it meant a lot to him to have you listen to his story and take the time to care.
Best of luck in the contest.

What a sad but lovely story, Kay. I'm glad you got to know him, and that he liked your company. Those days of slavery are a shame to all those who participated. And there were millions. The cheap labour, costing them a bowl of rice a day! That was disgusting. How can one human treat another so cruely? Not nice. Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you for telling us about "John" and his sad past. I liked how you described his distant eyes as he remembered the sad history he had lived through. What a saint that held no grudge against anyone - such a gift of mercy. Hope this does well in the contest!

PS in Hawaiian "kanaka" means nobleman

Hello Lena, Fancy that Hawaiin meaning. John would have liked to know it meant nobleman, he was just that. Thanks so much for reading. Love, Kay.

I could have remembered it wrong.
Come to think of it, Royalty was the Alii
    Perhaps "kanaka" meant "human beings"

This is a very well written story, and I enjoyed listening to it very much. I feel sorry that Jon had to go through this kind of thing. But as you say in your notes, you know that he is with Jesus and that's the important thing. Pat

What an incredible story about this connection that you established with this humble man who was so ill-treated by his masters and yet so forgiving. A gentle, loving man who made this memorable impact on you which I'm sure was reciprocated. Small edit: I have visited the city(;) it is very hot and the humidity stifling(.) No wonder.... Thank you so much for sharing this skilful and compassionately written tribute to a great man. Take care, Kay, and good luck! A strong contender. Debbie
