Jim, I loved it. Love knows no race, color or age. It just happens. Beautiful story. You have such a range of expression. You mentioned you taught a class (sandwiched between visiting your daughter, PT and whatnot). What do you teach? Esther

Congrats on post 300! Your storytelling is excellent. The way you delve into the complexities of relationships and emotions is beautifully executed. Each character feels real and their struggles genuinely tug at the heartstrings. I found myself completely absorbed in their journey and rooting for them every step of the way. Amazing work!

Hi Jim,
Great story! I was thinking it was the children being mixed race that was the problem. But it was this chance of carrying the sickle cell trait. I think Tabi and Matthew could still be a couple, and playing it safe, they could adopt a child or two. My cousin and his wife, over time, have adopted 3 wonderful little girls from China. Love conquers all.

"Matthew had never really thought about an interracial romance before, much less (become) involved in one." ... ( I'm thinking,
Matthew had never really thought about an interracial romance before, much less becoming involved in one.)

Nicely penned for the Romance contest... Good Luck!

Cheers,
Kimbob

I'm putting on my nursing cap.

As I understand your story, Tank does not have sickle cell anemia, right?

So she carries the gene, which means she has sickle cell trait...

If so, and assuming Matthew in no way has sickle cell trait. (Keeping in mind, although very rare in the U.S. it is possible for Caucasians to have the trait or the disease)--

But...

Let's assume he doesn't.

The CDC verifies:

"SCT can be passed on from parent to child..

*If only one parent has sickle cell trait, there is:

a 50% chance that their child will have the trait
a 50% chance that their child will not have it"

In short- Tabi and Matthew could NOT have a child with sickle cell disease!

(They have a 50% chance of having children with sickle cell trait.)

I enjoyed your story. Especially so since my Caucasian son married a wonderful Black woman and they have blessed me with three perfect, mixed-race grandchildren!

Love can conquer all!

(Well, the bias dies hard and Tabi's dad may need some convincing!)

I could not let a teachable moment slip away!

Karenina

This is very good Jim, but like Matthew said, they could face it together, but it wasn't the race issue, it a bad gene carrier, but I think they could adopt, there are plenty of unwanted kids in this world, but perhaps this story requires a sequel great story dear friend, blessings Roy

I believe prose and poetry that honors The Lord or highlight the human condition is the best. Sometimes I let myself get too silly.

Well done. I'm not into romance stories but this held my interest from beginning to end because of the racial factor. Matthew handled the disease business well. Crisp dialogue too. For me this would be a winner. Good luck.

Thank you so much! There isn't much romance in my life these days, so I have to live it out through my characters.

He's so much in love with her regardless of what could happen if they had children. I would like to know what he decided to do. It's a lovely love story for the contest. The best of luck. Ulla:)))

I appreciate your words. I like open-ending stories so the readers can imagine what happens next, masking the characters seem more real.

So do I. I've just written and open ended story for a contest. It's up to the reader to make the ending. Ulla:)))

I write a few things just for fun, but in real life, things don't usually get wrapped up in pretty packages, and it highlights the human situation characterized in the story.
