This is a fun story of accomplishment against the odds. Fortunately, she discovered she approved of a man who was obviously smitten by her. It was time for her to give up the boys anyway. You also seem to make all the right moves in making her day better every day.

    Oh, how I wish.
SomehowMy wife plays the role of a foil and covers up my missteps never letting me look the fool
Maybe when we are married longer I?ll get it right
Can?t blame the beloved for loving in return

You did well for not being one to write long stories. I enjoyed this peek into your life and the lovely photos you included. Nice work. I wish you the best in the contest.

Hello Tom,
it's funny how things work out in the end. I'm glad you still view your wife with such love. Marriage was meant to last a lifetime, and I'm glad to see that yours is doing just that. Congratulations to you both.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Let me tell you that 2000 words is a struggle with my attention span, however, your story was engaging, fun and an enjoyable read and kept my interest from beginning to end. (well, being on an exercise bike while I read it made it easier)
Funny, it almost parallels my first meeting with my husband, only I was the pursuer but he did not put up much of a fight.
Best wishes,
Mary

Delighted for the two of us.
A confirmed bachelor for life, at twenty-nine and alone with fewer (fish) to catch I began to think of an alternate plan. It worked out for the best.

You should do this more often. I loved it, Tom, it's just precious. I can relate to the drunken boyfriend dilemma which ultimately led me to accept my husband-to- be's fourth inquiry for a date. Terrible, I know. I didn't realize what a crum I was dating until he got arrested for driving while intoxicated. I gathered my pride and called Jack back, he was my neighbor and offered me a ride home from school on rainy days, and I finally accepted his invitation to go out. I even went as far as to ask, "Can you come over now?" Like you, he was ready when the opportunity presented itself.

We've never been apart since then, 52 years ago. Good heavens!

Great things come in the strangest ways. I'm so happy for you both. A virtual six for today and my best wishes for the contest.
Sal :))

Thank you for the read, and the parallel lives we lived. Seems God guided four souls into heavenly bliss while living on earth.

Tom, you got me. This was a very heartwarming story delivered with humorous touches. I really enjoyed this. I kept wondering if this was about your wife but gave up when you described her reaction to the Ball. However it started, we'll say lukewarm, it ended perfectly. Great job. Out of sixes but I give you a virtual one. Gretchen

My story has struck some chords, it seems, as I have been given three
six virtual stars so far. I am almost puffed up with pride. Thanks for the read, time and comment.

What a sweet story with a happy ending. The two love birds falling madly in love and living happily ever after. You can make up a story any better than this. Thanks for sharing, and Happy Valentine's Day. I just wish I had a six.

You can make up??? Share it with me, though I tink this was meant to say can't, and the best thing is it was true, as it happened with many sidecar adventures. Like when her dad chased me with a pitchfork, but that for a short story tale.
    Thank you

Yes, it was supposed to say "CAN'T."

And to think if the other guy hadn't been such a child he could have had your lucky woman. I'm glad was still a boy and you were able to man enough to get her. She sounds wonderful and I'm glad she had boundaries.

Yes, we were both lucky for if the first guy and the second were so immature to drink and leave her standing, can you imagine how those relations would be today. Thanks for your time and read.
I also check to read your submissions but they have been removed.

I have to readd them. I was away for awhile so I think they all got moved.
