Excellent writing. It is full of good information and vibrant imagery. The picture image supports this, well. Thank you for sharing this. Many writers will relate to this. I was a comics fan, but not Hagar, to be honest. My husband has told me that he was a Hagar fan. I didn't realize the artist served in WWII; if I'm understanding correctly. Sometimes we will watch Antiques Roadshow, or other types of shows, and there will be information on such characters as this, among other interesting things. We love history in our household. I enjoyed reviewing this.

Best wishes!

Alex

All these biographies of cartoonist are interesting. I wonder if you became interested in them because you like thier work or if maybe you are an artist yourself who likes to draw cartoons. I majored in art and tried all phases of it at times. I bought a book on cartooning. It was Disney type cartoons. My kids are pretty good artist but only the youngest work goes toward cartoon type figures.

Hello Brett,
What an interesting article. I really appreciate all the work you go to in researching so much about the cartoonists. I had no idea about Lucky. The only thing I knew about him was that he was a gangster. That was a great bit of sleuthing. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

I like that you add things about other people in here. Lucky Luciano was an interesting tidbit. I am continuing to enjoy these stories as well as enjoying the memories of those Sunday morning papers. Have you thought of doing one on the Archie's. I still pick those comic books up and thumb through them. Another great post. Gretchen

Appreciate your comments and the review. Believe the added insights paint more of a clearer picture of who the cartoonist is.

This is my favorite cartoon strip. The news that Chris died last year is sad and has me worried that Hagar will not survive. Do you know if someone has been hired to follow in his footsteps?

Unsure, but my research tended to indicate no one is laid on to replace him with the cartoon. Appreciate your comments and the review.

Great research. I learned a lot of things I did not know. It is interesting to look into the underwear drawer and learn about people. And I absolutely loved Hagar! Karen

As you've done with most of this series chapters, you've brought back to mind things that I once knew, or think I did. LOL. Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

Very interesting. I learned new stuff today! Yay!
The artistic gift of drawing (to me) is similar to the gift of making music (as opposed to simply playing an instrument). To be able to draw and the object be identifiable is amazing.
Best wishes.

Oh yes, Hagar the horrible and his laconically inclined nature, what a character, it's vaguely got a great connection to the Australian nature, this is a great series I'm really enjoying this series, well done, blessings Roy

A fascinating and well-researched history that I knew absolutely nothing about! It's interesting that growing up I loved reading the funny pages, but never once thought about the people creating them.

I wondered about this:
"included a Scottish terror "
Should that be terrier?

Thank you for sharing this educational and extremely informative piece! Julie
