As an only girl who adored my dear late father, I really resonated with this chapter. I like the way you explored their respective characters and backstories here. Only one little spag issue I noticed - "the glow ripples across is face". I do enjoy spending time with Heddy. :)

Hello Gretchen,
I loved this chapter. The bond between a father and a daughter is special. Girls grow up to want a husband like their father if they've been treated well I believe. I just love the way you capture the thoughts of Heddy, asking the hard questions, wanting time alone with her dad. Very touching gal, well done.
Have a blessed evening.

Marvellous characterisation in this, Gretchen. I can build a rounded impression of each character from the way they talk and act, and from the way they think.
There is a beautifully understated emotional tension running through the chapter. Very much enjoyed.

Such an atmospheric read as they sit by the fire talking in such meaningful dialogue. Love the analogy of the parrot v observer. I worry now for Willis as that plume of embers shoots towards the sky. This is such a gentle but powerful read that has me hooked. Thanks for sharing, Gretchen. Debbie

This is a nice scene with Heddy an her father on the beach together enjoying the fire. It sound like a caring family that plays games with their little girl and praya for the son who is away at war.

Who is Artie? Is he her brother? A sad story but peaceful and hopeful.
As always, you write so well.

Artie is a stranger who is living in Dr. Monroe's abandoned house. Thank you so much for this awesome review. Gretchen

Yep, I'm guessing that God's will will always be done, whether we like it or not. But it's probably best to pray about things so he will at least know where your thoughts are. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ric. We don't always get what we want from those prayers but it still helps to pray. Gretchen

That was a really lovely chapter, Gretchen. I wished I could have been sitting next to that fire, listening to the easy chatter. Father and daughter have such a warm relationship, That was the only answer Heddy's father could give her, and it was the truth. Love this story, my friend. Warmest hugs, Sandra xx

So true about Willis. God's will. I can't wait to discover more about Willis. I really like this story. Heddy is a great character.
After weeding I fell asleep reading my book. (comma needed after 'weeding,')

This is a nostalgic and bittersweet story, and I like Heddy. She is full of life. She is curious. I am all caught up now. Winter is my worst time the cold and wet wear me down. I did not read or write much in January. But as things warm up, I will. :-) Karen
