Wow! What an absolutely beautiful mix of song and story. The tale is simultaneously sad and lovely, and I didn't expect that ending line, although I should have, as you foreshadowed it with every other well-chosen song line you offered. I suppose I was holding out for a happy ending, but the end you chose was much more fitting.

Jim, you have quite the imagination to have turned that painting into this story.

Wow, Jim, very compelling story of love. Too bad the chimp wasn't able to show off what he knew, but to do so would have led to more pain and loss for Moira!

Sad, but bittersweet.

Take care,
Rhonda

Wednesday, if God allows it, I'm posting an entry for wan upcoming contest about my early delays at work and in marriage, and the silliness of a new husband, and how God carried me along.

This was so moving, and I was almost in tears, even though I know it's a story. Fiction. (I cannot stand cruelty to animals.) If I had a six left it would be yours for your excellent writing, moving and powerful. Well done.

What a beautiful, heartfelt, sad story, Jim, about the wonderful relationship that developed between this lab monkey and her keeper. Reminiscent of Richard Adams's The Plague Dogs in which the evil scientists have been carrying on forbidden experiments on lab dogs, you show us the "humanity" of this tortured monkey as he has developed a human-like brain.

It's a "Gift of the Magii" theme when Moira jeopardizes her job by sticking up for Chip, while he is willing to be sacrificed so she can keep her job lest she show up the doctors with her success with him.

It was well written and very sweet, as the love each one had for the other shone through. Very good job. - Jim

"Lord Buckingham and the Lady" is an exceptional short-short story which manages in a few minutes of reading to establish characters, setting, circumstances, and a conflict. It also contains an outcome with political significance: should animals as bright as monkeys suffer euthanasia after the experiments they suffered through are completed? Well done, Mr. Vecchio.

Your story for the Famous Painting contest gave me shivers...
Really clever and well written dearest Jim....
How are you? Is the Covid gone?
Might not be possible where you are but try to eat a healthy nutritious diet..NO processed food..
Have you seen the documentary on Netflix..."You Are What You Eat"
Really good..
We have not eaten meat or chicken in 40 years... and now we are thinking of not eating fish. Always feel better after a vegetarian mean...

My covid is gone, but I sure do have to watch what I eat. I cannot eat as much now, and, since my first covid, my tastes have changed. Two nights ago, I tried some Japanese food and ended up sick all night. But God blessed me and I had a good therapy session the next day.

Watch the documentary Jim... It is rather amazing.
    Glad your Covid is over.
I am super careful with what I eat.

This is a great story, Jim you've told about this painting of Thinking Monkey by Bansky. I chuckled at Dr Price, I immediately thought of Vincent Price . A great read,

It's very interesting. If I called him Dr. Smith, there wouldn't be much rection. If I called him Dr. Karloff, it would seem too artificial. But, Dr. Price had the right tone.

This is an unusual but sad story, written to sound like a fairytale. This story describes what happens when a lonely soul falls in love with the wrong person, or in this case, animal, who can not or does not return the feelings. Is it really better to have loved, than never loved at all?

That was so sad! Touching nonetheless. Glancing at your bio, I can't help but wonder if your work with the developmentally challenged led to the empathy in your story. Either way, excellent job.

Yes, that was a major factor. Also an instructor in Grad School (Writing For The Visual Media) that taught me the importance of writing about the human situation.
