Great guidance, it does swallow us up: "This site can suck you in. I love it here but take breaks away from it." oh yes, I have the emotional scars. Sometimes I've gone on the critic's site & they've written nothing. I know it's about them, there are too many support people for me to take 3's & 4's to heart: "We pour our heart and soul into these perfect creations, and then someone in clodhoppers stomps all over it! How dare they!" I could add a lot more, but this is enough. Good work.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your tips for newbies. When I joined in 2020, I experienced some of the same things. However, I read for my first six months without posting and discovered five stars was the expected rating.
You have given humorous, yet wise advice on a variety of topics. All newbies should be required to read the book, and this post in particular.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your tips for newbies. When I joined in 2020, I experienced some of the same things. However, I read for my first six months without posting and discovered five stars was the expected rating.
You have given humorous, yet wise advice on a variety of topics. All newbies should be required to read the book, and this post in particular.

I still use my four stars. You have to have something that indicates a work needs some help. But there is definitely five star peer pressure here.

I agree with your advice. I learned a lot in the past 8 years. At the beginning I gave a lot of four stars because I thought it was good, 4 is good, people got really mad at me. Now I gave 5 to most people unless it's bad.
At the beginning i got some really mean reviews but i don't anymore.
I only participate on cash price contest. I wone 4 last year, 400 dollars. The prompt contest are a waste of time.
I made a lot of friends and my writing has gotten better.
I do post twice a day because I enjoy writing and decorating my poems. But I get what you mean. It's easy to get addicted. At the beginning I wrote and review from the morning to at night... it was crazy but if I wanted money to promote my work I had to review a lot. Now I promote one post every other day because I have a life, as you say.

I agree with this writing. If I decide to walk away for a while, which is what I'm doing right now, I do it. I will come back when I'm in the mood to do so. I enjoy the site and the people; I just need to do other things at times.
