I'll have to think about it.

What I really like about this site is how much I learn about poetry forms. Until this post of yours, I was completely ignorant of the ekphrastic freestyle story poem format! So interesting, and enticing, too. You've inspired me to consider writing one, myself. (Maybe you should sponsor a contest for it. I think with the creative writers on here, that would make for some really interesting reading.)

But back to the poem, itself: So well done, Yardier, because it captivates the thoughts that are evoked by The Thinker, so it's kind of a two-fer! Not only that, you also invite us, your reader, to think about what we're thinking. Clever and very well-done. I genuinely enjoyed this and am so glad it was available to read today! xoxo

Thank you, Rachelle. What I like about this poem is Rodin was inspired to take the idea of thought then produce a work of art. The painter saw the sculpture and produced a work of art. I saw the painting and produced a poem that invites the reader to produce a work of art either in their mind or by review. Pretty cool.

It's like paying it forward, but with art.

Indeed, it is a mystery what rodin thought. A mastery in philosophy and yet not so famous besides the statue.
Thank you for sharing!
Blessings with hugs and kisses.

This needs a six, but have none left. I love this interpretation of what 'The Thinker' is thinking, and the 'so funny' way of the girls peeping between the statues legs, the boys with their gum, and the ladies with their memories. This is such a fabulous ekphrastic free verse poem, Vard, it is too true to be fiction. Lol! Great fun! Warmest hugs, Sandra xx

The fact you wished you had a six is good enough for me. Thanks for the review and hugs. Yard

Very well done. It certainly made me think! The subject choice is creative and the words make the story come to life. I love the last sentence. It seems to me that we do not spend enough time 'just thinking'. Too often we just go through the motions and miss an awful by not slowing down to 'think'. Great job. ann

Thank you, Ann. Yes, to many distractions in this modern world. The minds of our children are being stifled to respond to digital impulse.
Sad, like mice in a cage.

This is a brilliant piece that is somewhere in the middle between personifying a statue and simply speaking of the statue as a statue. It had a touch of humor while some of the statements and questions can be applied to us live people.... great work.

Your ekkphrastic FreeVerse was very good and a bit rollicking with so many different perspectives and viewpoints included in this piece. I enjoyed the use of all capital letters ~ unique.

I always loved that statue. Firstly, I would get the gum off his behind. In school we had an assignment to write what he was thinking about. I wrote that he thought he should have eaten more prunes, and that he needed to bring his own toilet paper. She had me read mine to the class. They loved it, the teacher not so much. Good writing. :-) Karen

Thank you, Karen. I remember a saying from back in my high school days; Prunes for truth. I'm not sure what it means but we thought it was cool to say it.

I must admit, that in all my many years on this planet, I have never heard "Prunes for Truth." Does this mean eat your prunes so you can regular bowel movements, and not be full of Crap? :-) Karen

Hello Yardier, I've always liked "The Thinker." He must ponder a lot of things as people, especially today's people, pass him by.

Your poem reads and flows well and has good humor within. Humor sells.

Of special note:
RASCALLY BOYS STICK GUM ON HIS BUTTOCKS

(Good imagery. Obviously, these boys are not being taught by the Nuns of yesteryear. Lol, but true. My nuns use to make anyone caught chewing gum scrape the stairways, and under the classroom desks, for gum while on their lunch break. Today, this would be considered child abuse, and the nun would probably be in jail.)

Also:
SO COLD TO TOUCH
WHERE IS HIS HEART?

(A good question to ponder)

Well done. Do you remember Dobie Gillis and the Thinker?

Thank you, Margaret. Yes, I was a typical television boob head when I was a young teenager. I remember Dobie Gillis but I never associated 'The Thinker' to the program.
Speaking of Nuns, there is a hilarious ruler smacking scene in the Blues Brothers when the Penguin tears into Jake and Elwood. It's on You Tube: The Blues Brothers - The Penguin.

This is an interesting poetic form just as The Thinker is an interesting human form that apparently suffers many insults to his dignity. The more I read this poem the better I like it, as you suggest in your last line, what do I think about it.
