Good advice to any writer. I tend to pay less attention to my titles and the title is the first and ultimate "hook" for a reader, I think. This issue for me is likely part of my personality that tries to be more about substance than "show" and often readers don't get to the substance without the hook of a good title. Thanks for reminding me of the value of titles.

All the points of successful writing work together. I like that FS provides all members with opportunities to study other writing genres and presentations. The human mind wants to learn, and the human heart is eager to put it into action. Thank you for this excellent response and comments!

Thanks so much for this advice! I think you're completely right about choosing your title with care. It staggers me when you see a list of contest entries that all bear the same name because they've all simply given their poem the same title as the prompt. They should make it different so it stands out! :)

Makes you wonder what it would be like if we were all named Jane or Joe.
Thank you so much for your very much appreciated review, Navada.
-- I really like your name. I would love to be able to go to Navada and see a mustang herd in person. I think I will add it to my bucket list. :-)

Thanks so much! My pen name is actually a combination of the first letter of my real name plus part of a Harry Potter spell. I came up with it many years ago. :)

Super!

You are right. Although the book was initially aimed at newcomers to the site there are plenty of members of longer standing who could be encouraged towards appropriate reviewing and responding. Cut and paste responses to a review are, in my mind, inexcusable.

The title is our first chance to entice a reader...
I find an intriguing title hooks me, and once engaged, I stay engaged!
It's essential we give some thought to what we hope to convey.
Often a title comes first, like a word prompt from the muse!
Great point!

You are so right that composing the best title for your work is very much a key part of writing. For me, often the title is the hardest part. And sometimes coming up with names is hard. But I know when I wrote word pieces and wrote about an unfamiliar foreign-sounding word, I would get fewer reviews. Thank you for contributing to the book!!

I agree with you that the title indicates what the post will be about and we can decide if we want to read it or not. Titles are very important, as well as pictures and an overall good presentation makes each post a joy to read. Some people can't be bothered with the presentation though, which is a pity. When you publish books, presentation is very important if you want your book to sell, love Dolly x x x

I couldn't agree more on titles! Often, the title is the first thing that I "write", and it guides the story. Also, if you're writing flash fiction, the title will often help to tell the story, and if your word count is crucial, that is very beneficial.
Thanks for the tips.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. To me the hardest part of writing if choosing the right title. I change my titles constantly. I'm never satisfied with it. I'm sure new FanStorians will enjoy reading this.

Gone with the Wind is one of my favorite book titles ever. Also, To Kill a Mockingbird--there are so many great ones.
Thank you for your super comments, my friend!

Well said, Lily. I enjoyed reading your points and perspective to writing and titling your pieces with the correct 'hook' that will draw readers into it. Great points that we all need to be reminded of as we write. :)

A very good addition to the book of reviewing tips, my friend. I work hard at this and try to entice my readers with the title and the lead in. Thank you sharing, my friend, and for your insight. Sending you my best today as always, Lilly dear.

Thank you greatly for your supportive thoughts, Sally. Of all the titles ever used, I think HOLY BIBLE beats every other one. Big smiles and hugs, Lily
