What a terrible situation to experience. The second stanza, in particular, really moved me as I imagined God bestowing such love and compassion on someone you care deeply for. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Hello Beth, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. To find her as you did had to be a scare and shock to you and your daughter, but that she looked as if she closed her eyes and went to sleep is a blessing.

Your poem reads and flows well and has good sensory appeal. Of note:

Maybe God looked down and said,
"You don't have to.
Close your eyes and rest. I'll handle it.

(I have a feeling that she got what she wished and prayed for)

Lovely photo choice. Well done. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

Thank you for the excellent review. I think you are probably right. She seem to feel moving back to Florida was a fate worse than death because she had some bad experiences there.

This is moving, Beth! I do remember when you went with Carol to help Joy and the shock of finding that she had passed away. I like how you ask the question, "How do your close a chapter which began
in the innocence of childhood,..." The chapter will continue in Heaven someday and you will introduce us to Joy.
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for the review. She was a photographer. She has taken many pictures like that one. Last year, she was out every day taking pictures. I appreciate your review.

This is a very sad form to read, but it's also a beautifully written. I appreciate very much the wording that you used and it flows well when it is read aloud I wish you the very best with all of your writing. Patricia.

Thank you Patricia. I do miss her terribly but if she had chosen her way to go, that would have been it.

Hello and good evening, my friend. Wonderful contest entry! Good luck!

I believe you meant to use "in" for this line: "It the innocence of childhood,"

Other than that, no SPAG critique to offer.

Thank you for sharing.

Very moving verse, Beth.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
The unexpected passing of a loved one is difficult to digest and comprehend.
If any consolation it is that your friend didn't suffer... I hope that that's the way I leave the world as well...

Best Wishes!

Thank you Diane. I've not written a lot of free verse and hope it doesn't sound too much like prose. I think if she could have chosen that would have been her choice.
