I lost a very good friend in a similar manner. She was sitting in her recliner, all her best treats surrounding her, the TV on and it looked as if she had fallen asleep. Sometimes, I believe those 'no time to say goodbye' are the best ways to go. I pray they are as painless as they look. Great writing with honesty and a good flow from one word to the next. ann

Thank you Ann. I also had a cousin in Texas die that way. It sees and easy way to go unless you realize what is happening and don't want to be alone. My husband was talking when he died. I didn't realize he was he dying. He didn't seem in pain although he was in the hospital with do not revive orders. Thank you for the six stars.

Your words impact the reader with a clear view of emotions and feelings. I have had a few close friends pass on and I know the feeling of loss and missing them. Your poetic form is smooth and your theme is one I am sure many can relate to. I like the verse where you mention the daily phone calls, it shows how close you were to your friend.

This one hit me in all the feels. This was so well-written and eloquent in its expression of your emotions and reaction to her passing. The lines that stood out to me were:

"The solitaire cards spread, waiting
for a move that never came."

What a way to speak of death in beautiful yet tear-jerking way.
I am so sorry about the passing of your best friend. I can only imagine how hard that must have been, especially as it was so unexpected. But I am glad she went to rest peacefully, as is implied from your verses.

Such a sad story but so true, one never knows when their time is up. Sounds like your friend passed away peacefully with no pain which is a blessing. Would liked to have given you six stars but I have run out, so please accept five. Take care

This poem, Sleep Well My Friend, is a sad, but hopeful testament to a life well lived and left as peacefully as any could ever hope for or expect. Remembering Joy today.

Thank you Bill. It was shock to find her dead but she was so depressed about the move and having to sell a house she loved that it may have worked for the best for her. I miss her, but I'm thankful her death was peaceful.

This was Joy's view? No wonder she wanted to stay in the mountains! Beautiful! Did you write a story about her after her death? I seem to recall you may have.

I love your second stanza - "You don't have to. Close your eyes and rest." What a beautiful thought.

We are at an age when we begin to see our friends and family pass from us; a tragic and sad part of life. But Joy had a name that says otherwise:-)

Thank you for sharing, Beth.

Thank you Pam. Joy was an excellent photographer and shared the photographs she took of her area on many sites and had a large following. I did write something short about having found my friend deceased. Several people remember it from January of last year. I think she couldn't have asked for kinder way to go.

Thank you for sharing this tribute to Joy as a contest entry. I can't say I enjoyed reading because of the subject matter, but it is a very well written poem and I want to wish you luck with the contest.

I relate to this. I just lost a dear friend and neighbor who I always loved raising a special yellow rose for her. The last words we said was see you later. I suppose we will someday. Good one, Beth.

I remember reading your story about going to visit your friend Joy who was moving. I'm sure it's hard to believe it's been a whole year. Time truly flies by. Sorry about your friends passing. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric. It was a shock but I think she would have wanted it that way rather than to move somewhere she didn't want be. She had gone through two divorces and had two children die in Florida and hated the thought of moving back there.
