Oh, that was a surprise! I just went back to see if I'd missed the phone call. So what did he say? Miranda has every reason to have a sleepless night, I would have done too. I guess I'll have to wait until the next chapter for an answer. Talk about mysterious, this story certainly is! Well done, my friend. Can't wait to read on. :)) Sandra xx

He (presumably it was him) called several days before. Thank you for this . Gretchen

DUH!!! Of course he did! Sorry, Gretchen, the brain has semi-retired! 😂🤣🥰

Your story is a proper maze. I cannot imagine how you keep track of everything. Just thinking about it makes my head hurt. That is why I do poems and short stories. Kudos to you.She should try yoga or deep breathing. She could do what I do, make the bedroom cool and crawl underneath the heated blanket. Karen

Somehow, it usually comes back around. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Chronic pain makes you try all kinds of things at one time or another. I used to take hot showers and would stand against the wall until the hot water ran out. I can't stand for long now, and sitting, makes the steam overtake you so that doesn't work. Hot pads, hot blankets, and a cold room at 65% works for me. Karen

Another excellent chapter.
I took Ambien for a while. I would get up in the middle of the night and do stuff I didn't know the next day until my daughter would let me know. One night I fell in the kitchen and cut my eyebrow... needed stitches. I never took it again.
Wonderful dialogue and character development. The plot is very engaging. I'm glad Miranda is opening up and sharing the way she feels and thinking.
Well done

I was positive until I read this post that Dougie was dead. I knew about the previous phone call, but thought it was a hoax. I knew about the scamming money from people and figured, yeah, he did it. Now I'm not so sure that he's dead. You have me spinning. That's a good thing. I am enjoying this story.

Thank you. I'm not sure if he's alive or dead either. Thank you for this great review. Gretchen

As ever, your excellent dialogue promotes great momentum and character to your story. Miranda is learning to share her anxieties with others and I get the impression that we're due for another clue soon as to Dougie's whereabouts. Thanks for sharing, Gretchen. Debbie

Miranda, is in a very confused state that is interfearing with her sleep. Carrie is good at her job and doesn't push her to talk. I wouldn't have gotten the perscription filled either. I almost never get a perscription filled that I think I could possible do without. I really enjoy this story.

What a tough spot for Miranda to be in, having thought Dougie was dead, then getting his call. But now she has to find him before he really is dead, because, something is definitely wrong. LOL. I just slipped down to hit the save button and send this review then noticed three stars showed up. Luckily, I caught my mistake, but now I'm wondering how many times I might have sent people less than five or six stars. It makes me almost sick to my stomach, since I'd have given you a six if I'd had one.
Thanks for sharing.

No six necessary. I just want the feedback. I appreciate the fact that you continue to read my work and review it. Gretchen

I'm guessing she needed that therapy session. I'm still not convinced Dougie is alive. That call could have come from anyone. The way I'm figuring it is if someone else placed the call, they had to have known Dougie to have sounded enough like him to fool Miranda.
On the other hand, Dougie could be a hostage and was forced to make the call.
I'm all over the place now! You got me befuddled with all these ups and downs and twists and turns! So damn good! Anyway, I'll have to wait with the rest of them--I guess! Best JohnC :))

I will confess that I have no idea if Dougie is alive or dead. Lol. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Nicely written. Error-free as near as I can tell.
Carrie sounds a bit more like a fellow-investigator than a counselor in this segment. This is a FanStory issue, not a criticism of your post. In a novel, the chapter would probably be long enough to establish their roles.
Best wishes.

I wish I could just brush my teeth and splash water on my face and be ready to go! It takes me a lot longer to face the world and my morning face needs a construction job before I leave! Ha ha ha. This is another fine chapter with some local American phrases that give away your origins Gretchen. Much enjoyed, love Dolly x
