You're making me feel guilty now, Bill, as I was the one who questioned your spelling on vacuum:)) I didn't mean to cause any added stress. And my own spelling is going to pot now that so many words have a different American spelling which leaves me wondering which I should choose. Hope all is well. Have a good day, Debbie

It seems that spelling vacuum wrong is a common occurrence. Who knew?

You tell it, Bill!

I hate spelling it almost as much as I hate doing it!

I've heard the Bits call it a hoover...
and cleaning their rug is called hoovering.

Can we start a movement?

There are only three words in contemporary use in the English language.

Continuum and Muumu being the other two!

Must we?

LOL!

Great humorous little story. The best ones are the ones that focus on some seemingly trivial detail that occupies way too much of our brain capacity!

I never thought to write about it, but my word weirdness is if I say a word too many times, it starts sounding foreign, then I'm not sure it's really a word. Almost like a deja vu sensation.

I am hoping for a sequel to this to find out what greater quest developed! Loved it. Julie.

Even for experienced spellers, vacuum is a tricky one. I also write two of them, look at the word and think - No, that's not right! I enjoyed your reflection on the etymology of these words. :)

One thing I can guarantee you Bill, if spelling vacuum cleaner and choosing between to, two, and or, too is your biggest problem, then you have no problems. Take a chill pill and do a good job of cleaning for probably the first time in your lazy, privileged life.

I have the same problem too with the word. Another one that confused me was desert and dessert. I remember the difference now by thinking two repetitive 's' equals two sugary treats.

Alright. I might have to tackle that one after complement and compliment.

Hahaha, your humor is top notch, Bill. I love this ramble about spelling, vacuums and the need to stay focused when you are alone... my mind wanders over the most insane things when I have too much time (and yes, it is 'too'). LOL. Hugs!

You're so funny! Perhaps you wouldn't be confused about the number of Cs if you think that vacuum and vacuous are both from Latin meaning "empty." Is it time to empty that vacuum cleaner? Now you got me questioning...

Good question! The Latin word for "empty" is vacuus. That's why. I'm guessing.

LOL, I love to see you back with some humor, and it's very good. I can't spell vacuum, either. Of course, there are thousands of words I can't spell. I love how your mind works...or maybe overworks! Well done. Terry.

It's funny how a word misspelled keeps popping up when we type it. One typed or written wrong, it's forever in our finger memory. It makes sense to me that vacuum should have two c's, but I've trained myself it doesn't. Any other words to come in your posts?
