I absolutely LOVE your story snodlander!
There is so much action in it, so much intrigue. I felt like I was in a Bond-ish action story. I felt the poor soul's pain, especially when he realized that the dog cleared the gate, just as he was thinking he was safe.
The mark of a good story is how it draws the reader in, and your story did that superbly. I especially like how you ended it with the classic "who's a good boy" line.
One note - and I'm not going to drop my 6 stars to 5 because of it simply because your story is that good - in your second paragraph, the "street lights reflected off the fresh show". I believe you mean fresh snow, correct?

A clever ending and a really nicely written little Christmas Story for the contest. I enjoyed the pace and engaging narrative. Just need 'span', not 'spun'. Otherwise, good luck with this in the competition.

What an inventive story! I really felt the rhythm and urgency of the chase and thoroughly enjoyed the last-second rescue by Santa! Just a few little spag issues in places to edit out when you have a moment. Great creativity here and very enjoyable read!
