This was another outstanding poem. The dialect flowed well, but I can understand that for some people it's very hard to understand, and too different to write a glossary. However, for those of us with the Scottish, it has a value approaching some of Sir Billy Connolly's skits. kay

That?s praise, indeed, Kay. So very generous. I loved writing it. I?m so pleased you enjoyed reading it. I have entered it for quite a prestigious Scottish poetry competition but I know just how high will be standard of the opposition. Still, if you?re not in you can?t win.
Cheers, Terry.

Let your words do the work; well, I agree with you but if we cannot read some of the words, what do we do? Is it a form of language like the Lallan dialect of Ayrshire?

Well spotted. Lallans it is, as so expertly interlaced by Rabbie with standard English in "To A Mouse" imho the greatest poem ever written. Cheers, Terry.

That was hard to read but interesting. The adventures of the dog are well outlined with good humor. Excellent story telling, quite entertaining. Best of luck in the contest.

Many thanks. For anyone not familiar with the Lallans dialect it must be a tough read. Well done for persevering! Terry.

This is a clever poem, loved the Scottish accent and I would love to hear it read by you, perhaps you should do a youtube video? I reckon this is a winner for the contest. I was totally entertained by this skilful poem, love Dolly x x x

So very kind. Thank you. I think it does sound better voiced than read. As for YouTube, that?s an interesting idea but I?m a technological dinosaur and wouldn?t know how to even begin. Cheers, Terry.

Hello again, Dolly. I have looked into posting a YouTube video but it?s beyond me. I have managed to make an audio recording which I think I can forward to an email address. If you?re OK with that please let me have yours and I will see if I can forward it. This is like climbing Everest for me! If you don?t want to engage with this, that?s fine. All Good Wishes, and Happy New Year. Terry.

This.is.amazing. Wow.
I was laughing all the way through. So clever!
I adore the 'Lallans dialect of Ayrshire' so strongly represented here. And yes, it was all completely comprehensible to me. The below stanza made me actually laugh out loud. I am so impressed. What a challenge!
That's some tough competition right there.
He kens he maun retrieve yer poop
He scrapes it up wi' trusty scoop
and plops it in a plakky bag.
And soon abune the bin he'll stoop
tae jettison the mingin' clag.

What a beautiful poem (with some sly Scottish humour) and a tour de force! I'll be very, very disgruntled if this doesn't win Ben's contest. Wonderful work! :)

Honestly, I skimmed through this. It seemed like a difficult read. It reads to me like a drunken pirate. Like this pirate could easily be mistaken for just a drunk but if you listen closely to his words, you find that he is making good points. Not only that, but he is also rhyming well and placing his words so well that he is being original.

Thank you. If you?re not familiar with the Lallans dialect it must take some ploughing through. Well done for staying the course. Cheers, Terry.

Nice writing! Your language used was a bit odd, it wasn't traditional English, so I had to use up a bit of time understanding everything. I like how you elaborately describe the day in the life of the labrador, and it makes us appreciate these mammals so much more, and just how much they can do!

Thank you. A mixture of Lallans dialect and standard English as employed so much more successfully by the incomparable Robert Burns in "To A Mouse." I don?t if it is possible/permitted to post photographs in this format but I would be quite happy to share an image of the old mutt in question. Cheers, Terry.
