Beetle Bailey an Hi and Lois were always favorite cartoons for me. This cartoonist is very impressive for starting out so young. I am enjoying you series on the cartoonists.

Fascinating stuff. And well researched. You really know your stuff. A world of comics that I'm afraid I know nothing about. Well, until I read this! Thanks for posting.

Love the research you do. Have you always been enamored of cartoon strips? I have always loved animation. I remember "Tom Terrific" on Captain Kangaroo. I read the cartoon strips every day, but never got pulled in. I enjoy your take on things.

I really enjoyed this lesson about the creator of Beetle Bailey and all the other diverse projects he created. I was particularly taken with the concept of situating a comic strip on the Ark! A few little typos in places - puesodonym and Koloa bear among them. (As an Aussie, I can tell you a Koala isn't actually a bear even though it's often called one - it's a marsupial.) I really liked the quote "Knasen: Varning for Snusk." Some languages are just so melodic and funny! :)

Mort Walker certainly created comics for a huge number of publications in his lifetime. He also seems to have won a lot of awards. You certainly did a lot of research to write this one.

I remember the army cartoon character Beetle Bailey and all his antics, and the clever cartoon, which probably reflects a lot of us in more ways than one, beautifully written, there's is some serious research work going on here, well done, blessings Roy

Walker certainly had a distinguished career. He got off to an early start and his success before he even got out of high school was impressive. I can't believe he was Hallmark's chief editorial designer when he was 18. I have read some of the Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois cartoons, but generally don't follow the cartoon, although I admire the work of the cartoonists. Great to have a Museum of Cartoon Art. They truly are artists. Excellent presentation, and I am enjoying your focus on cartoonists. judi

Great information in this. I never really got into Beetle Bailey, but my dad (army veteran) thought it was hysterical. I do remember reading Hi and Lois when we used to get the paper. Great article. Gretchen

Well, like most cowboys, by the end of the week I'm all out of bullets. But that doesn't mean that I enjoy your Funny Pages post any less. Reading the funnies is great, but so is knowing the secrets behind the scenes. Thanks for sharing.

A wonder chapter full of information that this reader loved to learn. An easy read having this reader wanting more.
Bettle Bailey was (is) one of my favorites.
In my military unit we had a member named Bailey. Of course he then called Bettle Bailey.
Thank you!!
