You are still in a battle...a war of sorts, searching and longing for peace. Mrs. D was kind to offer you refuge and shelter, but she lived in the same conditions you were trying to get away from. Fortunately you had remarkable instincts that warned you when danger was near. Your instincts have saved you many, many times. Let's see what happens next.

Such a tragedy - the woman with no recourse and no rights. Sometimes information is good and sometimes too much information damages. In this case she needed her rights.

Captured again!

This chapter has a definite sense of suspense going on. The overly simple apology from Mr. D was of course not going to be enough to overcome long patterns of behavior, even if it sounds sincere. I have heard people will apologize but never really change.

You are SO extremely masterful at quelling us the teeniest bit around the rim while keeping us on edge. This was such an intriguing chapter because of that. If we looked in from outside that house, it would seem all fine...but because of your warning, we just can't buy in. Tremendous job yet again, Lea. This book is SO excellent. xo

I think you were right to be leery of this temporary peace. That man is like a pressure cooker, and there's no telling when he will blow. You built up the tension quite well in this chapter, and I could picture beautifully everything that was happening, both outside and inside your mind.

You constantly wonder why chaos seems to follow you around. I'm sure there are many reasons. One of them has to be simple probability. Some people are just bound to have more bad luck than others, and you seem to fit the bill. But you certainly were predisposed to it by your unfortunate upbringing.

But something else probably also contributed--not in every case like the present one with the Indian family, but in others--and that is your good looks. If you were plain-looking, men especially would respond differently and wouldn't bother you.

Being the narcissist that your mother is, I wouldn't be surprised if for a long time she has been jealous of you for your looks, kind of like the queen in the story of Snow White. I'll bet she was once pretty but was fading with age and saw in you one who surpassed her in looks, and she couldn't stand it and had to take you down. At this point in time, you are a real threat to her rather than just a perceived threat, so she's getting more and more desperate. I could be wrong about all this, but I think it plays a definite part in some of the troubles you've seen. - Jim

What absolute tension and trepidation you convey here as you wait for the monster to appear! Everything is on high alert. And when he eventually appears and apologises, you don't trust this ceasefire one little bit. This is an unbelievable way for you to be living, Lea, and, as ever, I feel so sorry that you can't seem to escape from the mire of this abuse. You understand the pattern so well but now you've got another family to guard and protect. There are some small edits: u(n)der such circumstances; she again (waved) her hand. Thank you for sharing this excellent chapter with yet another cliff-hanger (Oh dear!) Debbie x

The story ends on another cliff hanger. It sound like you didn't want long for the bad thing you were anticipating to happen. I was surprised to find her husband still there after her weeping. I thought he was leaving her. I was even more surprise to hear him say he was sorry. Now, I want to know what her tears were all about.
Is your mother talking to you or you uncle about getting you out of that house?

Unfortunately, that's the nature of the abuser. They at first they're wonderful and great and show you all their best qualities. And then after a while they start getting picky. And then they start getting mean with their words. And then they start hitting and then they do a real beating. And then they take off and then they come back and they're real. Sorry and the honeymoon. starts again. And they're back to calling each other names and the circle goes round. It's not a pretty one but it's one I know. Thank you again my friend. I appreciate you. I hope you're having an awesome day and your evening is grand thanks again!

Again, we have some quiet and hope for a moment and I treasure these moments. Don't let it change. I fear the worst. Hope all's well with you, Lea. Much love. x

This is really intense Lea. It is horrific the life you have had to live, and I really felt for you as you could see in this scene that something bad was going to happen. Another well told chapter.
