I haven't given you a six in a while, and I find myself with an abundance on a Saturday, so you're a lucky winner, lol!

It was a very well-written chapter - I couldn't find anything wrong. I want to be sad that Beth never gets a say in what makes her happy, but that's not how "the calling" works and Ben has had his share of disappointments, too. I'm sure they will be rewarded for their faithfulness when God is done with them.

Have a great weekend, Wayne. It's in the 70s here, which is fine with me.

    Yay me!!!!
    Thank you!
Pleasant here in central Arkansas, considering.
And thank you again for the six stars!

Oh no! And it was all going so well. A moment's happiness followed by a descent into fear and dread again. But all will be well in the end, I am sure.

Feel a bit sorry for Beth missing her opportunity to settle and open a bakery. But Ben has to do what seems best in view of God's calling. He will have to forward an address in Alaska for the documents to be sent to. The trouble in the whole situation is that men shoot first and ask questions later.

    Yes they do, shoot first.
And an 1880s warden was pretty mad.
Thank you for your very nice review.

Come on now! You are going too far with this he was exonerated. The prison people are aware of this. This is nonsense. I think I am going on strike. I like you and your writing most of the time, but this is one hammer on the head too many. Karen

smiley face here - Thank you for your review.
1880s - the warden didn't like the escape, thinks the preacher (Ben) was in on it since it happened in the church. With Ben escaped, there was never an order not to hang him. He figures he can plead ignorance since his last order was to hang Ben on that Saturday.
Even if the warden was prevented, it would not affect his communication with a sheriff. He could bluster all he wanted. Remember - 1880s.
What would you do if you were a mad warden, the sheriff of Fortuna, or Ben?

I just think that the 27th calamity was one more than enough. Let him help others with theirs for a while. Karen

Well, that was a rotten state of affairs for Ben and Beth. How much better times we live in now with instant communications, nationwide access to law enforcement data and the like, and Ben wouldn't have had these problems.

Alaska, huh? This will be an exciting change of pace. Looking forward to seeing what kind of trouble he can get into up there! - Jim

God's calling can be rough on a person's reputation. How sad that they have to leave again but Alaska sounds like an interesting place as it is during the gold rush up there and people can easily get lost if they don't call attention to themselves. Unfortunately, Ben's calling always brings attention to him.

This is another excellent chapter. Well, it looks like Fortuna is not in God's plan. I look forward to the next chapter. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thank you. Everyone wanted, and expected, that they settle down, but Ben's calling has not led that way.

Oh, I feel sorry for Beth. But she's a trooper! It would be so nice to settle down where they are welcomed and have friends. But I guess something keeps them moving. But how will the sheriff get all the papers to Alaska ?Where in Alaska? That's a huge span of land!

He handed ben a telegram. (Ben)

Caps are very difficult for me. I'm always going back to fix 'em.
There's much more of Beth to come. (smiley face here)

So now it looks like Ben and Beth have been seconded to travel to Alaska, and that Sherrif Fortuna to receive the documents per the cancellation of the San Quentin execution, although it would be hard to leave somewhere one loves, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you. Yup. Nothing easy about following a calling. At least they have each other.

Need a six for this. It is amazing how God makes and escape in the time of troubles. The Apostle Paul had so many close calls as well. However, God made an escape. Good story, Bro.
