Beth,

This is a brilliant entry and subject for the Haiku contest. Your brief verse perfectly pictures the mesmerizing aerial art performed by a large flock of starlings.

One correction:

Swooping flocks form mesmerizing patterns in the shy (sky)

All the best in the contest,

Eugene

We used to sit in our back garden and watch this amazing spectacle for hours on end. They would leave and return constantly. We missthem now that we have moved house.

This is Haiku at its best. In a few words, it expresses volumes of truth. Your poem is an art lesson. It's no wonder you were awarded an All-Time Best.

I could sit and watch all the aerial aerobatics for hours. I've dreamt that I could fly since I was a very little boy but unfortunately it hasn't come to pass as of yet. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great review. All kids want to fly and sometimes I do in dreams but I don't think I could handle flying with that crowd. I wanted to do it solo.

Ciao!

You chose effective words to showcase the wonders of these birds.

I had the luck to see such a formation when I made a visit to my parents in Spain.

It was September and I was on the terrace of our villa in the afternoon;
those I saw were swallows that had formed this huge swarm and were performing a ballet.

They were gathering and preparing to leave for milder clime in Africa.

Back home in the north of Italy, I'm always happy when the swallows return in Spring in my town ... I have never seen them make that dance though.

Starling are European birds but they got here in the US and now they are everywhere. I see them often. Thanks for the great review.

This haiku, Starlings in Formation, has the proper formatting and notes the angelic and highly watchable patterns of these gravity-defying animals. Nice.

Nice topic. Nice Kaiku.
Starlings are truly amazing to watch. I think I'd get dizzy and fall right out of the sky. Or do a faux pas and get myself kicked off the team.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Wayne. The first time I saw them, I could hardly believe they could fly so fast and never bump into each other.

Excellent little haiku, summing up one of the wonders of nature in a mere seventeen syllables. I love the use of alliteration which takes it up a notch. Good luck in the competition.

Hi Beth

This is an excellent entry into the Haiku contest. I really like the vision this one has. I also like the word "Motifs". It illustrates this piece nicely. Good luck in your contest.

Thank you for the review. I'm glad you like that word. Some didn't know what a motif was.

Did you start with the picture and go from there? Brilliant use of alliteration in each line, Beth. Each phrase captures the display these birds give in the sky. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank for the review and the six stars. I saw some of these brids in flight this past Tuesday, I found the picture under google images. There were so many it was hard to choose one.
