Sounds like a recipe for survival. The fact that we are still here proves one of two things possibly happening. Either we are very good at surviving or else we are just damn lucky to be still standing.

What I get from your poem Bill is that if we want to survive desperately enough we will adapt so that we can. Life is a continual series of adaptations, with age and abilities continually changing. Thought provoking poem Bill , I enjoyed it.

I'm pondering over the meaning of "who converts what others don't." Does that mean a conversion of one type of matter into another? Or a conversion of philosophy/mindset? In the latter, I agree that flexibility within the circumstances helps in survival.

I am a survivor who knows all about converting sorrow to joy. You must learn this as soon as you can in order to cope with those that don't adhere to common dignity, and think only of themselves. This is a good poem, full of meaning. Karen

There certainly is a lot of truth here. We either learn to adapt and change to suit conditions or we won't survive. We might not anyway, but it's definitely an option.

Survival is a basic instinct and some are better at it than others.

I think you've summarised this very clearly and with a moral strength. When reading texts that depict invasion and warfare, I often wonder how societies would respond under such pressure. I know I would struggle, but I have great admiration for those who have the physical and mental strength to fight back under those circumstances.
