But, I could not lay there forever I knew. - It would read better if you put 'I knew' after the 'But'.

But, I could not lay there forever I knew. - It would read better if you put 'I knew' after the 'But'.

I loved your description of the forest and what a comfort it has been to you and remains so to this day. Except for that one bad storm (which wasn't the forest's fault), it's been nothing but good for you each time you've stayed there.
Could this encounter with the Indian lady be the first break and the first bit of kindness someone has ever shown you? Let's hope so, as you surely deserve some kind of good fortune to come your way. She seems genuinely caring, and she certainly came along at the right time. I'm hoping this is for real and won't lead to further disappointment for you, and that you finally begin to see that there is some good in the world of man. You certainly haven't seen much evidence of it yet. - Jim
