This is a wonderful Thanksgiving piece and a great entry for the Eyes of a Child Contest!
Suggestion:
This is a 113 word paragraph. Paragraph breaks give your readers subconscious mental breaks. Necessary to keep them engaged. Grammatically, only one person should dialogue in any given paragraph.
So when dad starts to speak that gives you a great naturally start for a new paragraph.
My two cents.
Regardless, fun read!

This was cute. Sometimes children innocuous questions carry with them more profound issues. Here it could be interpreted as a moral question of whether to eat living things and if non human beings have a conscienceless .Good Luck.
