I'm with you on Christmas, Easter, etc. I would also have them all year round, and I do agree about being kind to others, but I think being kind to ourselves is also important. I put myself down a lot, saying things to myself that I wouldn't dream of saying to other people (calling myself useless, for example), so a reminder to be kind to myself is helpful. Also, Jesus talked about loving your neighbour as you love yourself, and sometimes we ourselves are the hardest people to love because we know our flaws and faults better than anyone else.

Yes, you are right. To adequately love others (as ourselves) we do need a measure of self acceptance and self care. I tend to be the same, putting myself down a lot. Self talk is very important and perhaps our goal should be to treat ourselves as we would treat others. Thanks so much for reviewing this expired post. Appreciated greatly.

See what happens when I fall behind? I miss these precious gems of wisdom! (On the other hand, I had a six left and I'm so happy to leave it here with one of the kindest people I've come to know and love on FS!)
I agree with all that you've observed and shared here. Kindness Day wasn't established until 1998 -- how positively infuriating we'd need a day to remind us of such a basic human need!
I laughed out loud when you related the bit about this day being about being kind to yourself. Then I too, became cynical. It's a "me first" world and people, particularly faceless wi-fi "shadows" seem more content to leave harsh remarks and commentary on everything from FS reviews to social media posts.
February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. At least THAT has a motivational "seed" to help us grow!
Sorry, I missed this. I'm trying to catch up on many posts I've missed.

Thank you so much for reviewing for no recompense. I hope the pleasure of reading was sufficient. Love the quote from Plato. I appreciate you.

You make a valid point. Kindness should come from the heart and at the moment it is needed, not just to tick a box. We are here to interact and help each other. I like the tee shirts I've seen in the area recently. "You can choose to be anything. Choose to be kind." What a great message. Kindness blesses both the receiver and the giver.

Yes that is a great message on t-shirts to remind people of the great value of kindness each and every day.
Thank you very much for the great review.

Hello Wendy,
I've never heard of kindness day. Hopefully we don't have just one day in 365 where we exercise kindness. When Jesus said he didn't come to be served, but to serve, that should be a wake up call to everyone who wants to live a Christian life. You're so right, acts of kindness can leave the giver and the receiver blessed. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.

Many thanks for reviewing Tom. You are right. Sometimes I think we Christians live in our own little world, but the rest of humanity is crying outfor the kindness we should be offering.

Thank you, Wendy, for your efforts to push for kindness at all times. Our current world is marred with wars, riots, protests, and demonstrations-- and most of these events lack a show of kindness. May your writing touch someone and help them try a gentler way.
Best wishes.

Thanks so much, Leather. All we can do is make a little difference within our own circle and hope there will be a ripple effect in influencing others. I appreciate your review!

I agree, and I think the world is sorely lacking in kindness. Cruelty and unfiltered words fly all throughout cyberspace. People write and post hurtful words without thinking. Gaslighting is a trend. I read two horrible reviews on FS just today. I couldn't believe it. It's becoming more accepted... even on here.
Thank you for spreading kindness, my friend. You're always so very kind to me. Sending you my best today as always.

It is quite wrong to post horrible reviews here. Suggestions for improvement can be made respectfully, or otherwise if they really don?t like some writing they can choose to not review. I have had a few really dreadful ones which were very hurtful, and certainly did not help me improve as a writer. This should be a place of support. Thank you for your understanding review and thoughtful comments.

I agree with you. It doesn't take any extra effort to be kind. It should come naturally and promoteing one day of the year for kindness is like saying it's okay to yell at people and be a rude as you like the rest of the year. There are days we don't feel up to par, but dumping problems on other isn't the kindest thing to do. I agree with all you say and I don't think it should be controversal. We just need a little empthy and the ablilty to visualize ourselves in the other person shoes. How would you hope to be treated if you were them? It is sad for person to feel left out in a group. That seems to happen to shy people, strangers, people with low-self esteme images and those that don't hear or see as well as others. We need to think of ways to make then visible and like they matter.

I wholeheartedly agree! It's same with Christmas!! Why are we supposed to be kind, caring and giving at Christmas but not the rest of the year!!!!! Doesn't make sense. I found this a very interesting and thought-provoking write.

Thank you for your supportive review. How different the world could be if we all practised kindness and generosity each day.

As Christians we shouldn't have to be reminded to be kind, it should come naturally. It's sort of what Christianity is all about. Loving your neighbor as yourself. It should be second nature to all of us. Thank you for sharing this post with us. I have strong feeling about being kind.

Thank you, Barbara. Great review. You are right - it should be second nature. Sometimes we just need a recommitment to putting it into practice.

Great message, Wendy! It's so important to be kind everyday. I like how you even note what the world views as being "kind to oneself" is just selfish pampering. Kindness is a picture of a character trait of Jesus - kind and compassionate and forgiving. It's what we need to strive for daily.

Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful review. We often don?t realise how much we are self focused instead of thinking of others. I am trying to remember to develop a consistent habit of kindness to all, even ( or especially) those who are unkind to me.
