Do you mean to tell me, the preacher don't jest have sex in order to procreate. LOL Just kidding. It seems finding the boy was the reason for this part of the calling and both seem to have decided the timing is wrong for having a baby.

I'm out of 6 star ratings again. The story keeps my interest and makes me think. Some of the ideas expressed are different from mine and I like things like that to make me think and maybe re-evaluate. You continue to build the characters in an interesting and natural way. It's obvious you have done a lot of writing and I love this story.

Sounds like Beth is great at math and "counting." I didn't know that they knew about that kind of birth control back then - or it might have been the only kind.
Great way for Ben and Beth to have an introduction to parenting together.

Thank you for your review.
My limited study revealed that it was known for centuries, but not very widely until the 1840s and 50s.

My husband's grandmother had to learn it in secret from an older woman. She already had two kids at 20 and was frail so she took the advice.

Very good writing. How fortunate for the child that they just "happened" to find him. And were led to find his family. God's calling still in evidence but in a way they didn't expect. Now it will be interesting to see if they choose to start a family themselves. Well done, as always.

Thank you.
I wanted to work on God's timing issue. We are held up by a variety of fluke occurrences, one delay after another, only to discover that we are perfectly positioned to do God's work later on.

Ben and Beth certainly seem to be on the same page about everything they do. They were so fortunate that Beth spotted the child by the river. They were rewarded nicely for getting the child back to his family.

Thank you. Ben's calling might have had something to do with the coincidences.

Their calling was definitely to save a little three year old boy and return him home to the safety of his family. That would be very satisfying wouldn't it. In the meantime... it let them see if they could do God's work with a child some day. Well done Mike. Nancy:)

This was an interesting chapter where Ben and Beth seem to have been tested about their own desire to have a family. It seems as though they do, but they are questioning if this would be the right time for it. I think a lot of couples go through that, but sometimes it's best just to let nature take its course.
My wife and I went through that ourselves before our first child. We had been trying for a few years, and during that time I had undergone a major career change, so our future was somewhat uncertain. Once it became clear that my new career was just right for me, she got pregnant. The time was right for it.
I was confused for a bit with these lines:
"They both looked off to the nearby river.
"Before you go getting your hopes up. My math is telling me that you get another couple days off."
I wasn't certain at first who was speaking. Now it seems obvious, but it might have helped to make it clearer quicker if you had done the following:
They both looked off to the nearby river.
"Before you go getting your hopes up," said Beth, "my math is telling me that you need another couple days off."
In addition to the speech tag, I think "need" says it better than "get" because "get" implies that he would be looking forward to the days off, whereas "need" implies that it's something he needs to do, rather than wants to do. Just my opinion.

Boy! What a time to be out of sixes. That was a rip-roaring good time had by all. We saw Ben as more well-rounded. And, why doesn't he announce himself as a preacher in every town so he can marry up folk and preach one lesson? They could earn a little money for there food and travel? Great story. They did the rhythm method back then?

Rhythm was all they had for actual prevention.

I first thought the child had been abandoned and they would take him in. But I like your idea here of a "test". All future parents should be tested, lol!
I like the ending too - the snapping of the reins to end the chapter as you began it.
Something tells me they will settle down about the time Beth becomes pregnant.
Good chapter, Wayne.

Wow! Another great episode. You keep churning them out with faultless skill. For a moment I though they were going to adopt, but once again God moved in a mysterious way. Brilliant!
