I don't know about you, but for me, it seems I've started getting calls from all the cousins that I haven't talked to in years. I'm guessing that since we are all getting older, they might be wanting to catch up on what they think we've missed over the years. I haven't missed a damn thing. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have that many left to get calls from and the ones that call are probably just checking to see if I'm still around. I never talked to this lady until my Mom died and I had to pick up the slack. Now it is me she gives a hard time. Thanks for the review.

This is funny, yet not funny. There are elders who have lost touch with reality and are confused as to who's who. I'm surprised you didn't put this writing in one of the dialogues-only contests. I bet it would do well. Nice writing.

Thank you. I've written five or six of these already. She is a little confused, but not as much as she'd like you to believe. She's always been someone who overacts and tries to give everyone a hard time. I've known her all my life. Still, I care about her, and she gets all the time she wants when she calls. She good story material. LOL

The note explain why this certainly has the ring of truth to it. Your dialogue is crisp and to the point. Poor Mom sees the chair lift as dangerous. This depiction is too often true. Children take their elderly parents to an 'old folks' home' and expect them to be happy with others their age.

Thank you for the excellent review. Her daughter and son-in-law built a house in their yard for her when she was about seventy. She depended on them for everything and her daughter was getting in bad health herself. She been better off where she is and isn't nearly as confused as she was when she was living at home. She has more people waiting on her, now. She was spoiled and has never been happy in her life, but I try to give all the time she wants when she calls.

You have created such a real sense of personal voice for these characters. They jump off the page. The story is poignant and funny and caring and so resonant of families dealing with various challenges in a loving manner. This reminds me of conversations I had with my elderly parents. Thank you so much for sharing.

Really, based on phone calls from your cousin... how sad... What a mess when nothing appears to be correct and there is so much confusion... she said...he said... yikes...

Thank you for the review and comments. I guess you'd have to know how much she enjoys these calls to appreciate this.

Oh dear, sounds as if she has dementia. I see this all the time people believing their children are their spouses or their parents or denying they even have children. I don't think you can win with that lady lol

Thank you Wendyanne. She doesn't really have dementia. I thought she was getting it when she lived in the house in her daughter's yard, but she is so much better now and dementia tend to get worse. I think it was her medicaton confusing her back then. She loves to give me hard time but we talk almost everyday. She like a little sympathy.

LOL, Beth, well done. If we can't laugh at ourselves as we get older, who can? Okay, I do know the answer to the question...everybody else. Nevertheless, this is well-written and fun to read. Terry.

Thank you, most people found this funny but some seemed to think
it was sad and I was making fun of older people. I'm old enough myself that it wasn't my intention. I give this lady a lot of time and respect when she calls so I don't feel guilty of finding some of the conversation funny. I've known her all my life and she always enjoyed giving everyone a hard time. She's only pretending to be afraid of the stairlift. She had one in her apartment before she moved and she used it for years.

Thank you for the review and the six stars. I glad you got some chuckle for this. The phone call is fairly accurate. My cousin is a trip. She provided me with material for a lot of posts.

This story, The Death Contraption, rings so true of some elders who are confused and are putting on their tough face to make up for fear. Of course, some are just nasty old folks.

Thank you for reading this. My cousin, who this is is really about, is both confused but also enjoys saying no and getting attention. She's always been hard to get along with but when she calls I listen. She's good story material.

That sounded like a very frustrating call to have to listen to. My husband's parents had to get a chair lift to take them up to their second story. They are in their 90's now. You did a great job telling us about this call! Thanks for sharing, love and blessings, Teri

Thank you for thre review and comments. My cousin had a chair lift in her apartment before she moved. she didn't have a problem with it then. I tend to think she looking for attention and enjoys making people worry about her needs. Thanks for the review. She was bored and wanted a reason to have me sympathize with her.
