Wow what a very powerful, distressing piece of rhyming poetry!! Your imagery is extremely vividly descriptive and your use of alliteration is very effective. Very well done. Good luck!

I am glad that you liked it. I hope it has raw power. It is not meant to be pretty or moving. It is meant to have impact and a visceral response. Thank you! Regards GK

This is a chilling tale of violence when people take the law into their own hands and hang others from trees, namely black people, I certainly hope this does not happen these days Gerard, your post is powerful, good rhymes and welcome to Fanstory, love Dolly x x x

Hi, Gerard. Welcome to FanStory.

You don't see too many lynching poems here - or anywhere. You had me groping for the meaning at first and I am still a little puzzled by the whips line. However, the final line is masterful and drops a tiny hint of the only other poem on this topic I am familiar with, 'Strange Fruit' by Abel Meeropol.

The simple couplet rhyming may be a weakness in a contest devoted to rhyming poems, but this is strong in my eyes.

Steve

Yes, it probably is, but i will subdue that to the fact if it has power to affect on a gut level. Hopefully I have done that! Thank you! Regards from GK

Goodness! That's some first post. Your language is powerful and your imagery taut and significant. Really impressive. If you stick with it, you will enjoy your time on FanStory.

Congratulations on your first post! You present a very powerful condemnation of slavery, told in excellent rhyme and meter. I'm Jewish, and have watched anti-Semitism and resulting violence make another return, so I fully understand your final comment. I pray that this cycle of prejudice and hatred will finally end for all people. Good luck in the contest.

Michele, thank you so much for your welcome and your very kind words. It must be tough seeing what is going just waiting. I am glad ton now and know that this is still present and alive under the surface. I am glad that you were moved and I meant for it to have impact. Thank you Regards GK

Wow, what a way to make an entrance on FanStory. You didn't waste any time tackling a gut-wrenching part of our history (and present as you correctly pointed out). Outstanding presentation. I'm looking forward to more of your work. Welcome on board! A six is the highest praise from members.

I hope the exit will have some applause and not last week's fruit. But in any case, I wish to sincerely thank you for welcoming me aboard and I hope I can achieve some things while I am here on this site. Thank You! Regards GK
