I know very little about what you describe, but I hope you have it well worked out as you might get some readers that understand these plans. I know people and plots, not dynamic machinery.

Well, I hope they're not too knowledgeable about these plans or they might laugh at their impracticability! I'm not an engineer, so I just did the best I could imagining how these things might work. Glad you made it through unscathed, and hopefully you can enjoy the rest.

Well, I don't know much about engineering but I know a couple of golf enthusiasts who would love to read your book. One's from Scottish descent and the other is Dutch and both love golf, so let us know when it's published!

Although I'm trying to get it published, I doubt it ever will be. I'm not planning on self-publishing on Amazon, and I won't use a hybrid publisher either because that ends up costing you a lot of money which you seldom if ever make back.

I'd be willing to send you the Word document which you could share with them if you'd like me to. My email is jwile123@gmail.com if you want to send me yours, and I will send it to you.

Honestly, you should try Amazon's KDP. My books are not really professional looking but it's so reasonable to have printed and to give to friends.

    I'll email you.

I may end up doing that. I've published 2 others that way and it was kind of fun doing it.

I find the formatting on KDP such a bear! I get frustrated and have had pages wonky in books that I didn't complete there. But just printing the drafts are perfect for giving as gifts to friends.

    Good to know. Thanks.

Yes, there's something about a book you can hold that can work as a souvenir. I did that for a book on our travel to Israel. I never published it. I did several travel books and gave it to friends. You can always tweak it some more and print more copies. At this point, I know I'm not going for fame or fortune - it's a lot more fun than scrapbooking which I never did.

Wow! The sound suppression and visual camouflage systems sounds interesting. You even get to walk the course!

The sentence "it began being mined by a mine in West Virginia" - I think all that's necessary is "it began being mined in West Virginia", which is your point. Besides, mines don't mine:-)

I wonder if actual pro golfers would be interested in financing something like this; I would think they would find it fascinating, and anything that brings excitement to a dying game . . .

So people will need to wear the suit in the simulator? Or should I just wait and see?

A good chapter, Jim. Even though it's somewhat technical, at least you aren't taking the shortcut and just stating, "We worked with the group in Pennsylvania and developed a golf simulator." I hate it when writers pull that kind of thing. It's like they're cheating us.

Thanks for this great review and for the 6 stars, Pam. Good point about the mine. Thanks for that.

It's not necessary to wear the suit in the simulator. That's totally optional for those who want to improve their game. You could buy one and practice at home or on a driving range somewhere too. That was Abby's original intention.

Although this part was a bit technical, I also felt it was necessary to add realism to the story. Plus, it was just fun to think about how these systems might work.

It has always fascinated me that in principal this miraculous suit would be a short cut to training up good golfers, and indeed, a prototype and forerunner to helping in s number of sports in propelling the development of whatever sport they wished to play, you may be on to something Jim, well done, blessings Roy

This was real technical stuff, but it worked well. The reader needed to know this information. You did a good job explaining it to us. Thank you for sharing this part of the story.

Thanks very much, Barbara. I debated how much of this to include, but felt the story would lack realism if I didn't make some attempt to explain how things would work. I appreciate your input here.

Holy smokes Batman! I was thinking before how cool it would be to have extreme realism!
I wanna try the suit!
When I read this, I think to myself. Wow, you put a lot of thought energy and planning into this story. And definitely, I really good knowledge of golf helps! Let me know when the suits ready I'll be the first to hop in! Very well written with fine detail and thought on how this would work, making this Is a very well done chapter and In a very believable meticulous way great submission carry on!! Lol thank you! Have a great day!

I'm blown away by your review, Lea. I'm so glad you enjoyed this part of the story; I wasn't sure if people would. Thanks so much.

Blimey this is complex my friend. I guess you know something about computers to set all this out so convincingly. I know nothing so I am completely beguiled. Only four chapters to go! That's scary!

Thanks, John. What I know about computers these days is only enough to sound mildly convincing. My only goal was to make it all sound somewhat plausible.

Well written.
My, that is one busy (and expensive) floor, what with the varying grass and the sand, not to mention the altering terrain. I'm not sure that the foreboding details don't detract too much from the plot.
Best wishes.

That was my fear, but I felt that unless I made some attempt to describe how the thing would work, it would just seem like magic, and I wanted some realism in this part of the story to make it believable.
reply by Wayne Fowler on 30-Oct-2023
maybe just ignore the grass and sand?

Six stars for ingenuity, Jim! I am enormously impressed with this sustained cold logic. I don't quite understand all of it, but it sounds convincing, which is all I need.

I don't know how long you thought this through, or how many versions you had before it was right, but this feels like the product of many hours of 'midnight oil!

Worth a six then.

Paul, to be honest, I don't know if any of this was feasible, but my goal was to make it sound plausible. I had my son, who is a mechanical engineer, look it over for that, and he gave me a thumbs up for at least sounding plausible. Although I feared there was too much in the story about the workings of the simulator, I felt I had to make some attempt to describe how much of it would work so it wouldn't just sound like magic.

Thank you so much for your great review and the 6 stars.

Wow, Jim, I'd have to read this several times to grasp all the intricacies of this amazing invention. But what incredible work and skill have gone into it all and I'm delighted by the progress with the suit as well. Your story is original, imaginative, thoroughly researched, all focused on the very worthy objective of keeping this important passion of yours alive and well for generations to come. The well-expressed explanation of the simulator is essential to inject credibility in a story which will now be balanced by the fun elements of this project. Perhaps a short author's note about neodymium? Well done! Debbie

What an outstanding review, Debbie, for which I thank you very much and for the 6 stars as well.

Your comment about injecting credibility was right on. Whether or not all this would work as described, I don't know, but my goal was to make it at least sound plausible; otherwise, it would just seem like magic. It was fun thinking about these mechanisms, and it did require a bit of research.
