This is a form of domestic abuse, someone controlling you with a dirty luck and a threat that you may have done something wrong. To break free of this cycle takes some courage and your post is a very sad indictment of how some people suffer in relationships, love Dolly x x x

Thank you, Dolly. In reality, it is a Christian friend whose jealousy is horrible. She likes control but does not like being corrected. My darling husband, Tom, has dealt with her, as has my brother, both strong men of faith. In this review and Jesse's, I have received strength.
Comment from Jesse James Doty
So, the metaphor for a prisoner is the invisible chains your friend/lover has you in. Or is he in the invisible chains? It could go either way.
I like that. The indecision is the twist of the story. Is he or are you a prisoner of his contempt and rejection? It might be a two-way street with both of you down deep in despair and anguish. This is written well and has a message of unattainable love.
Using the word, narcissistic means you understand what that entails, doesn't it?
It is a term that is not thrown around carelessly but is used to describe a person who believes the world revolves around them.
I should know, my brother is one.

Jesse thank you for the lovely review and the comfort your words brought with it. The poem sprung from an encounter with a female Christian friend of mine, who likes to control. I can say my darling husband and my brother are aware of the problem They are both strong men of faith. Meanwhile this hobby has been a great blessing to me particularly since joining this group

Hi Jesse I have been writing for years with only one publication, and that was the winning prize There are a few writing groups in Australia and the UK, but this one has given me the most help both in writing and personally, and has helped me cope with the stresses including yesterdays. I thank you once again for the review and wise counsel, which Tom, my husband was delighted about because the worried look had gone God bless Claire
