So emotional, tears are actually falling. Honesty really adds to the credibility of poetry, and you've employed that here, in bucketloads. I truly hope your life has turned things around.
Gee you can WRITE.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. Also, thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words, all are very appreciated. <3 In all honesty, I was hesitant to post something so personal, but I am so glad I did, because, unfortunately, I think it's something many people relate to in one way or another, and hopefully can help us all feel not so alone in our own stories.

This was a sad poem, but unfortunately there are many families that could relate to the emptiness. It was a heartfelt poem that speaks to the masses. Thanks for sharing.

I felt sad reading this piece of free verse poetry especially as it is autobiographical. It reminded me of when my mum left me and my siblings although we did meet up again after a couple of years. I find dreams can seem just as real as reality and can gain comfort from them. Good luck

Thank you for reading and leaving feedback. It is much appreciated! Unfortunately, I know a lot of people can relate in one way or another, but I also feel like it makes us all feel not quite so alone in our emotions. Thanks again! <3

Sometimes, healing can come in a dream where it's easier to share your feelings and find the words you want to say. What a wonderfully written poem.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

It is so very true! It's amazing how cathartic just a dream can be; I suppose our hearts know what our brains need sometimes :D Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment! Your kind words and encouragement are much appreciated.

This tells of a childhood with deep heartbreak and the positive step taken to come to terms with it. Any dream that helps a person move forward in life is a good one. Thank you for sharing your poetic talent through this free verse contest. Best wishes!

It is hard to forgive a parent that has walked out on you. I was adopted by the man I consider my father, and he is wonderful. It doesn't take away the hurt though, that the man who was supposed to be my father stayed away fighting his own demons.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment! :D I'm very sorry about your own loss, though it sounds like you have the right father in your life, and that is wonderful. I believe family isn't all about blood. But I can only imagine the void and pain his leaving would cause you. Mine didn't so much walk out as we were removed from his life, and after years of not changing his violent ways and being in and out of jail, he'll unfortunately be in prison for the rest of his life. I've long wondered how it has been for him all these years as I have not seen him since I was 6, and the emotions surrounding him are certainly confusing. But I was fortunate enough to have a loving grandmother to raise me, and for that I am eternally grateful! <3 I think for people like us, to be able to celebrate the good ones in our lives is the best gift we could ask for.

I am glad you were able to dream about your Father, even if he did not behave as you would have liked. We have no control over our dreams, all sorts of people enter and make their presence known, I hope your forgiveness helps you to forget the bad times, I enjoyed reading your poem, love Dolly x

CMReber,

This is an excellent entry in the Free Verse Poetry contest. This write is pregnant with the emotional trauma of child abuse. You describe the experience with well crafted lines and words that paint a vivid portrait of an all too familiar family tragedy.

All the best,

Eugene

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave such a positive and encouraging response! <3 I don't often write about my own life, as fiction tends to be my genre of choice, but sometimes I believe we have to put out into the world what lays heavy in our hearts, especially since it is a scenario so many can unfortunately relate to. Thanks again for your time and kind words! It can be uncomfortable to share these kinds of things with others.

This is excellent free verse poem. Your presentation is very good. You use expressive words and colorful imagery that will draw in a readers. Readers will relate, because there are many types of absentee fathers, even if the fathers never leave home.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

Been there done that! When I went to met with my father at a halfway point after years of neglect for what I hoped would finally be an apology, my father told me that he forgave me and all he needed was an apology and we could move forward. He said that I was lucky he was there as he almost didn't give me that chance.

When we went to leave, his car broke down and I drove away with him sitting there. He said he did t need my help. It was the last time I saw him.

Unfortunately, some dads just suck. Good read.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear your story as well. I don't normally write a lot of personal things, but this one has been sitting in my heart for awhile now, and it was time to put it to paper (or computer lol). Sadly, it's something many people can probably relate to. Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to leave feedback and share your story <3
