This is a delightful piece of children's poetry and I think this would certainly encourage children to smile. I like the rhythm and rhyme scheme and I think it's a good entry for the contest. Good luck.

This is a delightfully amusing poem to tease a little girl out of hiding a smile that wants to be seen. The cute illustration perfectly fits the theme. If needed, reciting this poem likely will reveal that missing smile. Superb.

You are most welcome, Katharine. When I read your poem, I realized it could not be any better for the purpose, and that picture could not be better either. This post should do well in competition. :)) -- Mike

I can truly picture a child responding excitedly to this cheerful little poem using various parts of the head to move toward the goal of having a child be unable to any longer hold back a joyful smile. Perfect choice of photographic art, as well.

This is a wonderful Child based poem for the competition.
I felt that it was written in a similar style to Dr. Sues, whom I loved.
Very good. This was a fun one.

This is a fun poem. I especially like these two lines: "Oops! It moved down in your ear;
Too dark in there to see, I fear."
This is a good aproach to give the reader cause to pause. This is begin to take the form of a metaphor. Clever.

Hello Katharine,
your heart for children is coming through in this poem. You have a real skill in relating to them. I saw it in your book and I see it now in this poem. This was delightful gal. Good luck in the contest. I think you've got a winner here.
Have a blessed evening.

Thank you, Tom! That means a lot to me! And thanks so much for the 6! I saw that picture, and couldn't resist it. Isn't she a cutie!
You're in the low 30's already. Makes me cold to think about it :)
When you waited for 4 hours, did you have to keep your car running the whole time?
-
Oh no, I just went inside after an hour or so. The only place that people leave machinery running due to the cold is like up in Prudhoe Bay on the oil rigs and stuff. Most of the vehicles in places farther north, like Fairbanks and beyond have electric engine heaters to keep the oil from freezing up. The tires do get flat spots on them after they've sat all night in the cold, and for a while, they will make a noise until they warm up enough to get round again. It's not that cold here. I have the added advantage of having a heated garage too, so I seldom spend too much time out in the cold in the car.
-
brilliant - a heated garage.
How do the chains work on pavement?
Would you believe we were 94 degrees this afternoon!!! and last week we were chilly. Crazy weather!
