Blonde was always the first comic strip I read. I am delighted to hear the history behind it. I remember her starting the catering business and, of course, those humoungus Dagwood sandwiches and long naps. Thanks for the post of how they both evolved. Very interesting.

It's funny because I never understood why Blondie didn't get a new hairstyle. I do love learning the history of these comics. Have never heard of Zits so I'm looking forward to reading that. These pieces remain to be entertaining as well as educational. Thanks fir sharing your wealth of knowledge. Gretchen

This is another comics post full of valuable and historical information, related to beloved comics. I was not aware about Blondie's historical impact nor did I know about Dean Young and John Marshall. I keep forgetting to bookmark your work I'm sorry. In one place, I can refer to each and also compare to appreciate the changes, historical connections, and overall direction of comics in society. Thank you for sharing.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

Loved this. So sorry no sixes. I do so relate to the Blondie era and good to know it is still going. I will check that website. Thanks for all the detailed information. I forget how "young" you are? I am 72.

This is a great article on Blondie. I had no idea of their backstory and assumed they were always middle class. I know I became more interested when Blondie became more than just a housewife. (After all, I couldn't just be a housewife.)

Very interesting read. Here in Australia I grew up knowing Blondie and Dagwood, but none of the others mentioned early in your piece. Fascinating to see their longevity and the processes and products of their creation. Well done.

Hello Brett,
thanks so much for doing all the research on this. I've never known the origin of Dagwood and Blondie. There is something comforting in looking at the funny papers and knowing that in a world that is rapidly changing, some things are going to be basically the same. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thank you for sharing the history of 'Blonde'. Although I've read the comic for years, I didn't know the history behind it. I appreciate the insight. I have also been a fan of 'Zits'. I know it will be an interesting read. I can't wait.

I love Seshadri's artwork! This chapter on Blondie is not as interesting to me as Doonesbury. Blondie seems to play it safe when it comes to politics and other cultural phenomena. I haven't read Blondie in a long time. The statement that the writer wants his readers to see her as a complete person seems to contradict the notion that she is a stay-at-home mom. But then that is just my opinion. We'll see what other readers think.
