Firstly, allow me to state an opinion that I feel is shared by many of your Fanstory associates and fellow scribes. Don't walk away, that amounts to surrender and it allows the bastards who scammed you to win. Remember the words in your Fanstory introduction. You are an OPTIMIST and a DREAMER. And a bloody good writer. Your reviews have helped me become a better writer. And lastly, you are an amazing contributor to this site. Fanstory needs people of your caliber.
PEP TALK now over.

I read your story about losing the money before I read this post. It would be a shame if you were to leave the site. Being in a dark place sometimes makes us experience lots of emotions. I just hope you are able to think through your decision before you decide to step away.

Thank you for your concern. I have given it much thought and my life is going in so many directions now that I must make sure my family and I are healed before returning to my Fanstory family. The appeals that I have received are heartwarming, but this is something I must do.

Scams are becoming so much more prevalent and sophisticated these days so it's quite easy to fall victim to them. The scammers don't care what financial harm they do to people. They are disgusting! Thanks for this warning to all of us!

Oh dear, Jay. I fear the worst. And approach your next post with trepidation. I think I can guess the subject and I have been so close to something similar in the past, but I drew back at the critical moment and my savings were protected. All the best of luck to you.

I don't see that as stupidity. They are good. The Wells Fargo check looked authentic. After my protesting, Maureen decided we'd call Wells Fargo to find out if there was such a check, there was not. & for my scam, they even showed a video of the person who was almost into my computer, Of course I believed anything they said after that. I'm very shakey as to who to trust anymore. I will miss you.

Thank you, Liz. Oh, how I wish I had a picture of the two who brought on this madness. Though I would probably then try to find a voodoo practitioner and be introduced into another scam! I have been buoyed by Fanstorian prayers.

Hi Jay,
I can see the heart that you have, and it's encouraging. I appreciate the fact that you care enough about your wife to want to support her in her time of need. I'm sorry to hear that you've suffered with some scam that's drained all your money. I haven't read the other story yet, but I intend to. Like others have mentioned, whenever you decide to come back to FS, put out the word. People smarter than me can figure out a way to set up something so that we can share the cost of membership. It would be a good investment on our part. I hope you are encouraged by the amount of support you've received so far. It's the ol' law of sowing and reaping. You've obviously sowed some good stuff. I hope somehow you can let us know how things are going. I wish you all the best and pray that things will work out better than you can imagine.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Tom, I pretty much answered everything in my response to your review of the other post. I just want to reiterate, though, how important the encouragement from my brothers and sisters here have been in my hanging onto my sanity. Thank you for your prayers. They mean so much. God bless you, Tom.

Yes, I read that post and it took a lot of courage to write it! And I am sorry that you will be missing from Fanstory. I think I definitely will be posting less next year so quite a few of us could be missing. I know that the Lord provides and may that nightmare of four days ago will have no more lasting effects. Keep in touch, Jay!

Helen, we are well on the way of coming out from under the heavy blanket of despair. Thank you for understanding. I will be coming back, probably in six months. Other things are simply more urgent now.

Hi Jay,
Don't you dare leave Fanstory! I'll chip in for your membership fee, and I know some others will, too. You are one of the best writers in Fanstory, and your departure will cause a great disturbance in the force. Who knows?... maybe a Black Hole!
I'll find your other post and find out what happened. Many things fly right over my head, so I know I'd be one of those who'd be easily taken in, deceived.
Your buddy,
Kimbob

p.s. it will be a long cold winter if you leave the fold~

Kimbob, while I'm so moved that you and others would pay my membership, I'm afraid it goes deeper than that. I need to get away for a while, just to regain my balance and to get my financial house in order. My wife is the one who took the brunt of my insanity. It was she who watched the money drain from our account, $500 at a whack, until we zeroed out. She is suffering PTSD right now and can barely function. She needs me now. So I must be away for probably 6 months. I will be back, though. It seems I've grown accustomed to my family here at Fanstory. I honestly don't know that I can get along without them. Especially my brother, Kimbob.

Well, Jay, it won't be an easy winter to get through. Don't go robbing any banks in the meantime. I don't know if they'll let you have a laptop in prison! Although, I bet you'd give us some outstanding stories about your fellow inmates. But don't do it. You need your freedom. I'll read your other post and get back to you.
    Cheers,
    Kimbob

You are so funny. The courts would take one look at me and say, "Aw, he's suffered enough, let him get back to his computer. He's harmless!" Thanks, Kimbob!

Thanks, Jay. I already did the 30 minute read (did you say 13? I read it more than once!) And I gave you a six for the amazing story it was. Hard to add much more here, except to say that the explanation about your wife was very helpful - she sounds like the sort of woman most guys don't deserve.
But second, DON'T EVEN THINK about leaving this site! Young 77 year old young writers like me look up to you for inspiration! You are royalty, Jay - and plenty of royals are strapped for cash!

But the overriding reason I don't leave is that FS, though it has its share of trolls, is a FAMILY of truly caring people - some can even write! And we would be horrified to lose you. It would be like Father Christmas retires, and there would be no more toys EVER!!!!

Stay with us, old friend.. We are praying for you.

Paul

My goodness, Paul ... your words make me want to cry. I've had lots of offers to pay for my membership, and you have no idea how moved I am by that -- and your words about Father Christmas (and the "toys" I would not be leaving! Geez! I know you and others are praying for me. I can feel prayer's movement within me. It buoys me up.

I really must leave Fanstory for a spell -- for probably not more than six months. My wife has developed a rather nasty case of PTSD over this insanity. While I was prancing around, blithely playing "card games" it was she who sat at her computer, watching the money drain from our accounts, trying desperately to get me to answer her calls and texts. Now she has to suffer through the echo of my madness and it is affecting her on the most basic level.

But I will come back. I need my Fanstory family as much as they seem to need me. That's what families do. Right?

Love you, man! Thank you for being you!

You are my older brother, Jay - so help your wife survive and then come back to us. We will pray for both of you of course. Can your bank help recover any money - or do you have insurance against this? Don't be too proud to accept help. You have given us so much.

Paul, you are so sweet with your suggestions. Nothing can be done through the bank or insurance. With the help of your prayers, Paul, we will get over this! Thank you for being a rock through it all!

    Good luck in everything, Jay.
Like I said, don't be too proud to accept assistance from those who have plenty to give.
