A Pulitzer Prize--that's impressive! as is your timeline writing of this strip and how it evolved. I particularly enjoyed the list of how Trudeau captured the personalities of Presidents by using symbols.

I think I used to buy the books that contained Doonesbury comic strips. I understood a lot but I'm certain not all of it. This was very interesting to learn the history of it. I knew he had won the Pulitzer. Thanks for sharing. Gretchen

I never knew of Doonesbury over here, so all this information is new to me. It sounds like clever political satire, and I admire your research into every piece of these comic strip histories.

I always enjoyed Doonesbury and am pleased to see you chronicle it. Our local newspaper had a falling out with something in the strip and quit running it. Looking forward to further word on it.

This is intersting. I didn't know what Doomsbury was about sot I never read it. I just now looked up today's cartoon and it was about someone at Mcfacta named Austen taking calls about Trump 4 indictments. The calls were funny. The Boss comes in to ask if they are using AI to generate signed picture. He learns Trumps photo has four thumbs and a tail.

My dad read "Doonesbury" every day. I graduated high school in 1972. Being a typic teenage girl, my biggest worry was talking my dad into a new dress and never worried about politics. I never understood or worried when Dad made comments about this comic strip. I do know he laughed and enjoyed reading. Just so you know, I have grown up and realize politics are important and we need to know what's happening. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your next post.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Very interesting. If I read "Doonesbury," it was so long ago I hardly remember it. I looked up Trudeau on Wikipedia, and I swear in his picture he resembled George HW Bush. I remember some of his cartoons were controversial. He'd really have a rough go of it these days, when everything is sure to offend someone or other. I didn't know about the play based on his characters. He certainly was a genius at what he did. That his work sometimes got him into trouble with the establishment shows he must have been getting things right. I appreciate all the details you included about his cartoons and their impact on the public. judi

I can remember when Doonesbury came along and was new and entertaining. But now, I think back as you bring to mind that it's been around a long time. LOL. There's nothing faster than time. Thanks for sharing.

What's missing in this collection of comic strips is the originality of writing created when personal comments are infused in the dry history culled from one tome and dropped into another.

Learned a long time ago no writer can please every critic all the time. I do not even try to. Suppose you will not like the next chapter either. So, my recommendation is you pass it by.
