This is good. I'm glad you quoted the words of these well known preachers in this post. It seems the words had a big impact of those in the audience who weren't necessarily Christians, but many were just curious about these men.

    Thank you.
And the people of San Francisco before the 1906 earthquake certainly needed to hear the Word.

This is another excellent chapter. The revival is a powerhouse of spirituality. Are you the character Ben is created from? I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Would that I was. No, Ben is a prophet/disciple caliber man with a calling.
Thank you for your very kind review.

This is really interesting. Dwight Moody seems to be very enthusiastic, which I see, to remember he was. Billy Sunday has an enthusiasm in his sermon. Did you actually use some of Billy's writing to make his sermon? If not, you did a good job of being a preacher yourself.

    Thank you.
All the sermon quotes were lifted directly from his sermons. The same for Moody in the next chapter.

A couple of interesting lines/thoughts: the Devil's highest reward for you is hell; and people have just enough religion to make them miserable. I've never really thought of the latter, but it makes perfect sense. Faith is all or nothing.

Wayne, that last, long paragraph - your words I assume. YOU should have been a preacher!

I like that you've taken the spotlight off of Ben for a chapter and let other religious influencers take the stage.

Ben is prophet/disciple-like, but only human. I'm trying to make him as real as I can.
No, all the words attributed to Billy are taken from his sermons.

So this is Billy Sunday's real preaching. Good for you to do the research to make it authentic. Same for D.L. Moody. A good chapter to include, hopefully thought-provoking for many, and a well written one.

Lovely to see Billy doing his bit and using his fame as a baseball star to fill a stadium for other reasons. Such imaginative writing, Wayne, and always enjoyable. Well done.

Thank you. I have to admit, though, that Billy Sunday's words were copied from his actually sermons.

He's a real person! That's even more exciting!

Wow, I'm guessing you studied Billy Sunday's style of preaching. I can imagine the enthusiastic response. Sounds like the dirty cops on the police force will soon leave SF! Great job with this chapter!

Does Christ live in your hearts. (question mark)

Thank you for your very supportive review.
I researched Billy Sunday, but merely selected quotes to copy and paste. I debated omitting these two chapters (Sunday and Moody preaching), but in the end, hope people will muscle through the preaching. Thank you.

I like Billy Sunday's style!

Hudson taylor, [Capitalize]

Ben introduced two of the pastors, also sporting stitches and bruises. [Unless that is Ben who said what preceded (and again, you need to use more character tags), this belongs in a new paragraph.]

Is the San Francisco as the conductor pledged, or Tombstone?" [Is (THIS)? San Francisco ...]

The devil says you're out, but the Lord says you're safe! [Why is this repeated?]

This seems a good transitional chapter.

    Thank you.
    I cleared up the confusion.
"The devil says you're out..." is repeated because I took it directly from a quote of Billy Sunday. That was his style.
Everything both he and D.L.Moody said (next chapter) are quoted verbatim.

fantastic writing about characters that many of us have read and learned about. Billy Sunday the Chicago baseball player turned evangelist who preached so many sermons. The one line in your story alone deserves a six, "Now, going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going into a stable makes you a horse!" And it doesn't matter whose like it was anyway. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

This is good and reminds me so much of Nikkie Cruse in Cross and switch Blade. God uses us in ways unbelievable sometimes. I remember God sending me into a rough place with men shooting pool drinking and doing what most sinners do. All they would do is look at me and a woman who worked behind the bar while I was praying openly for her. She had a vision and God sent me there to interpret. She was a child of God but in the wrong place. Of course, the; Lord moved her out.

Though I have missed much of your story I feel somehow, I have read it all. Sending blessings your way. Keep lifting up the King. He will do the rest.

Ben started out in Colorado mining country in the 1880s. Then moved on to Chicago, and then to San Francisco. Next????
