Wow, bless you and your family! Back in those days, we had no idea how AIDS was spread and we were scared of it just like with COVID. But your faith in God shines through as you were convinced you were doing His will and He would be faithful as always just like He provided you that cleaning job. I also am glad for the humility of that pastor. He admitted he was wrong. Few men do that!

"When One Door Closes" is an inspiring story portrayed by a prayer coming so suddenly answered and Tom's career began, and also lovingly adopting two health-threatened children. An amazing story!

I love the story of how God answer you prayer in such and amazing way in regards to the carpet business. You are a very caring person to be so willing to adopt Chris's two children. I'm anxious to find out how that works out.

You've certainly learned to walk by faith and not by sight, my friend. My goodness you've had some extreme challenges and wonderful opportunities open up for you and your family along the way, all providential. I look forward to reading more. Sending you my best today as always, and blessings in Christ.

Thank you for continuing this story. I am really enjoying it. It's amazing how God works in our lives, but he sure does.

One of them asked with an accent "How may I help you?" (comma after 'accent')

How interesting Elaine and I had two teens whom we looked after both for about three years, both had a falling out with parents, but on of them was our daughter's friend and the 17 year old boy was studying to be a teacher, we nurtured them both, they are both with uni degrees, the boy is now a married, successful, deputy principal and the girl is a SSO in a school, both are practicing Christians with godly spouses and lovely kids, God is good to the dispossessed, beautifully written, blessings Roy

A really gripping read, Forest. As a retired pastor, I was putting myself in his shoes - and I have to say, my first duty would be to the whole church.
So I would have said the same thing, and maybe I would have been surprised that you were so anti the HIV tests. Wouldn't you want to be sure? But in the end, only if the children agreed to it, without coercion.

Chris has had a very unfortunate life, and you have been with the angels in trying to rescue him - but he is brave too, in releasing the children whom he increasingly is unable to care for. What will happen to him is presumably in the next chapter. Along with the school's involvement in finding a permanent guardianship or adoption for you.

A very moving bio. Thank you.

Paul

There was much concern over AIDS and getting it from someone then. We were on guard with Chris when he was in our house. Plenty of fear to go around. Than ks!

Yes, I remember those days - there was plenty of hysteria. Like the beginning of Covid, it's the lack of information that causes the panic.
Thanks, Forest. Good luck with all your new writing.

My goodness, Chris was dealt a hard blow wasn't he?
Thanks be to God that Tom and his family cared more for them than appearances. And, I am glad Tom stood up to the preacher. Too many people depend on preachers as the be all and end all. They are just folks like you and me. You write with such feeling.
I will come back for more as time permits.

Good job Bro. It is good to know that real Christians still exist. You let God speak through you. Wisdom is always justified by those who have it. Sending blessing your way.

Hi Stan,
This chapter was very engaging, as all yours are. I connected with it even more because I'm raising a child who isn't mine. It's hard work, but rewarding... most of the time.

I admire the way you took these kids in and the way you stood up to the pastor. I know that had to be hard, but I think you taught him something!

Take care,
Rhonda
