Sounds like a very good plan. I like that it is adjustable that way. I also like that it's only for training and not allowed in tournaments. But I wonder how long one would need to wear it for the person's own muscle memory kicks in...Great idea!

That's a good point. I've read that it takes at least a thousand repetitions of a movement before it is mastered into the "muscle memory," so I'm guessing it would take a few days or weeks for that, but most golfers I know would gladly take months of trying it if they could see gradual, but lasting improvement.
That's how GolfTech makes its money. I took a series of 25 lessons from them once that cost me $1,700 and lasted about 4 months. But it definitely helped me. I think if I'd had the suit, it would have been much quicker than that.
-
Good to know! I'm headed to tai chi class and working on those thousands of repetitions!

This is such an intriguing idea. We really are on the verge of the development of all kinds of such suits, developed for a tremendous array of uses. And just a hint of the grade of mathematical understanding involved is hurting my head. My father was at the forefront of this kind of engineering, but he didn't pass it on to me. Tsk tsk. Great stuff. Julie

Yeah, they'd probably be handy for a number of sports like bowling, basketball free-shots, high-jumping, shot-putting, etc. As far as whether this suit would really work as conceived, I haven't the foggiest, nor of the mathematics involved, but I've learned to BS with the best of them.
-
Thanks Jim, and continue with the BS!

I'm wondering where the money came from for all this research. And what happens next then. All very technical and exciting. Lord only knows how you dreamt all this up!

Although I didn't cover the funding of the suit, I'm guessing they either pooled their savings or sought a venture capitalist to invest in it.
As to how I dreamt it up, it's easy to come up with an idea if you aren't required to also make sure it's feasible, which I am not certain that it is. I would love to have had one of these when I used to golf, but I'm not sure whether we'll ever see one made.

A suit of this nature is interesting and if it were possible could be applied to cricket, but cricket is a more 360 deg sport, so the slicing and hooking part of the sport is applied to those with a keener eye than those strictly applied to the confines of orthodoxy, because there is a bowler and batter conflict going on, well done, blessings Jim. I think perhaps the variables would put it out of the realms of affordability Jim. But, you never know, my maths was never that good. Good concept though.

I like that Abby is in charge - about time a woman was in control:-)
I, too, will try to come up to speed on such areas as geometric group theory and vector spaces before you post again:-)
We'll have to see what kind of surprise Abby has in store. In the meantime, I'll alert my husband that help is on the way for his inconsistent golf swing.

Yep, she's the boss of this one.
Good for you! Studying those disciplines will surely help in your understanding of the rest of the story. I expect no less from my readers:-)

Just as golf tends to be a rich man's sport, so this suit would be for the richest of the golfers, I would think. I can't picture one selling for less than five thousand.
This is just fabulous. I've seen woods whose head is on a kind of swivel devise and goes wonky if the swing isn't right. You've seen those. But the suit seem unique.
It consists of ... [Where in the world did you learn all this? Also, does such a suit exist? And, if not, shouldn't you pursue it? Once your book gets read by the right individual (one with the knowledge of checking patents, etc.) he might get a team ready on this. It would revolutionize golf learning.]
A fabulously well-written, well researched (obviously) piece, Jim. I'm gonna give it my last six!

Thank you so much, Jay, for the wonderful, inspiring review and the 6 stars.
I have no idea if this suit is really practicable. I've got my son, who is a mechanical engineer, considering the feasibility of it right now. But, whether it is or not, it was fun just thinking about how it would work.
I have a slightly different idea about the customers for this suit, which will be revealed in Part 4.
Comment from Carol Hillebrenner
You gave as much explanation of the math etc. of the suit for us who are not mathematically inclined. It is good to see that it is ready to test. Now to find out what the surprise is.

All that math lingo is a lot of BS on my part, gleaned through a bit of research. I have no idea if those things I mentioned are really applicable to the design of this suit. But to the uninformed (like myself), I hope it sounds half-believable.
-
I was jealous thinking you knew all that stuff. You fake it very well.
-
Thanks. It's a wonderful talent to have.

I don't remember this much detail in the previous posts about the suit. I think this enhances the story. Thank you for sharing.
Over the next year, E.J. and Abby continued to meet (Over the following year)

Good memory, Barbara. Yes, I did enhance this part quite a lot for this story. I hope the amount of detail about it doesn't get boring. That will be enough theory, as we will soon see it in action.

I know not what to say. An interesting read for someone in neuro-science and such things, but this has drifted far away from Killian and Aurie, or have their names been changed???

Yes, Part 3 is a major shift from Parts 1 and 2, but hopefully it will all come together when we get to Part 4, where we see what this story is really all about.
-
At 76 have I the time to wait for Part four.
Exactly how many parts have you for this ... what is this? A novel? Novelette?
-
It ended up being a 92,000 word novel (that's roughly 300-350 pages) of which we are now 72% done. We will be at Part 4 in about 7 more postings. That's 2-3 weeks from now.
You'll make it that long, won't you?
-
So It Is already completed?
And what is next?
Are you releasing It To
Amazon or have
Million dollar Book deal?
-
Yes, I completed it about 2 weeks ago, but am still tweaking it. I'm going to try to get a real publisher to publish it and will be sending out query letters soon to pitch it. I'm going to see how that goes first before submitting it to a literary agent because from my experience trying to find one of those for my last novel, Some Call It Luck, I don't really trust those young, hip, females who seem to make up about 90% of the literary agents these days, to give this story a fair shot. They'd rather get LGBTQRSTUV novels by transgender BIPOC authors who have written about the trials of being a woman stuck in a man's body, which there must be an amazing audience for, as so many of them are interested in reading novels like that.

Right up to date with you, Jim. Sooo much work went into this - not just the suit but the writing - and you have a multi-disciplinary set of hundreds of problems to solve here. [Incidentally, I'm sure the suit needs to be 'whole body' - toes to head - or it won't work.] I have done some of the Math- that is to say, I know both Group and Game theory math (a bit) - thanks to one of my oldest friends in Austria, who was Prof. of Math at Salzburg University.
You treat the problems with due respect, though this is probably a ten rather than two year development - but, we can't wait that long, and you have successfully conflated it into this chapter.
Well done, Jim. Let's see if it works.
