Thank you for doing this. I miss the old Sunday comics and I don't go to the right websites to read them and gone is the printed paper so it's nice to reminisce with you. I appreciate the background information.

Very well done. And informative, too.
I remember Paul Harvey well. His news stories and back stories were well researched and done, but I sure didn't like his politics.

I was flabbergasted that you referenced Paul Harvey, for I figured you to be a younger man and unaware of of Harvey. This is how old I am - I used to listen to his show on the radio when I was a teenager.
I never read Mutt and Jeff, although I've certainly heard of the strip. This is an interesting story of how comics came to be.
And now I know the rest of the story:-)

I never read Mutt and Jeff, although I've certainly heard of the strip. This is an interesting story of how comics came to be.

Comics are great fun and you really hit the spot in this post when you refer to that special relationship you develop with characters brought to the reader on a daily basis. Brett, this is good stuff. I will have to go back and pick up the ones I missed. I have read Mutt and Jeff, but it makes me think I must have read some reprints, or maybe someone else carried on the strip. I'm old, but not that old. Excellent idea you have brought to life. Terry.

This is an excellent and very interesting ! Comics were a big part of my life, growing up. I was always an artist, too, so they motivated me. I enjoyed reading it. Your presentation is very good, too. You also use descriptive words and colorful imagery that draw in a reader.

Clever idea to invent a character that allowed readers to live with him every day. I used to read Mutt and Jeff but never knew his tall sidekick was insane. And this became a brilliant success! Wish you could include a sample of each strip you write about.

Hmm, even more interesting, so after creating a syndicate the cartoons could be seen every day all over the country and as early as 1907. That's amazing. Ulla:)))

Hello again Brett - this one slipped through the net, so I'm reviewing it in the wrong order.
The phrase 'Mutt and Jeff' became almost as famous in the UK as in America - so much so that it was adopted into cockney rhyming slang, where it meant 'deaf'. So if I didn't hear what my East End friend was saying, he might reply, 'Bit mutt'n'jeff today aincha?' There are hundreds of famous (and often hilarious) phrases and plenty of books published on the subject. My favorite? [and you will never work it out] 'b'rassic!' = borassic lint = skint = broke! 'Goin' dahn the flicks t'nite, Charlie?' 'Nah, mate - bit b'rassic!'
