I remember that "wordless book"! I think kids used them in VBS to share the gospel. At any rate, seems like Angelo had Ben's address to alert him to the trouble ahead. Hope Ben knows to be prepared with prayer and ask for help.

Thank you for your great review.
I'm afraid Ben turns out to be human, with some of our shortcomings.

I thought he was going to encountering Diamond Jim's son but I'm sure he will at some point. In this post he is letting God solve the problem of how go keep people from turning the park into a race track. God seems to always answer his prayers, but he allows him to be hurt at times. Maybe that is how he keeps him humble.

Thank you. I think you've nailed it. Also, Ben sometimes gets a bit full of himself.

Very interesting chapter as we learn more about San Francisco's history. Ben is certainly relying on his faith to see that things are happening for the best, but perhaps he should take a few measures of his own to protect himself form the evil that is coming to get him from Chicago. I hate to see him ignore the warning.

"He knew that prayer was the only was to get resolution." - second "was" should be "way."

Grrr. I never was a typist. And I depend too much on Word'd underlining.
Ben isn't ignoring the Chicago threat. Just not much he can do at the moment.
Thank you for your careful eye.

I just hope Ben doesn't suffer the same fate as the fellow in the joke about the flood who was standing on the top of his roof as the water kept rising. Two guys in a boat come by and offer to rescue him, and he tells them God is watching out for him, and no harm will come.
A little later another boat comes by and he gets another offer of help and says that God will protect him. Later a third boat comes along and the men in it tell him he'd better come with them, but once more he refuses, saying God will save him from the flood.
Soon the waters rise to the top, sweeping him off, and he drowns. When he gets to heaven he says to God, "How could you forsake me like that?"
God says, "I didn't forsake you. I sent men to rescue you 3 times!"

Yes, we do that.
Save me the way I have it in mind.

I read your author's notes and I'm still not sure what the point of the wordless books are. Are they meant to be written in by the receiver? In all my years in church, I've never heard of this.
You mention twice that Ben doesn't know what Clyde does for a living - only need to mention that once.
Talk about the Lord working in mysterious ways - Clyde kind of appears out of nowhere, then comes up with a plan to help Ben.
But there's a storm blowing in from Chicago . . .
Good chapter, Wayne.

Someone else complained that they didn't know who Clyde was, so I edited that little piece - shouldn't have.
Wordless books were real, both my wife and I remember them from Sunday School. They were teaching aids and religious tracts aimed at evangelism.
Thank you very much for your helpful review.

I remember Clyde:-)

This is another excellent chapter. I like the idea that Ben with God's help and Frank's help managed to save the park. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Sitting on a bench at the eastern entry was Clyde, Ben's friend from his early days in San Francisco. [Wayne, in light of Clyde's apparent clout and so that his words at the end, "I'm on it, Ben" have more meaning to the reader, you might want to enlarge on their early acquaintance in San Francisco. I don't remember him at all ... and have no idea how his "being on it" is going to help Ben.]
Ben is once again a mover and a shaker!

Thank you.
I think it's a problem of serial posting as opposed to sitting down with a whole book. Clyde has been in 6 of the last 8 chapters, but not in the last chapter.
But it wouldn't hurt a thing for me to let go of my typical brevity.

Ben has a huge problem if the racetrack is built. This is apparently the job God has given him to make sure it doesn't happen. Fortunately, God has someone waiting for him who can make a difference.

Another answered prayer. It's kind of like us old sinners just wait in line for what blessings we will receive later. Although, in our minds, nothing ever seems to be enough. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.
Keep in mind that Ben is nearly the equivalent of an Old Testament prophet, or one of the disciples. Not at all fair to compare ourselves to him.
But just wait. Evil lurks.
-
Yes, I've always thought of Ben as an Old Testament prophet type. And I figured that as kind as you are, there's a little more evil hidden in the shadows. LOL.

smiley face here
Prob'ly a good thing I posted all the 'kill the author' stories of character revenge before coming out with super-spiritual Ben. (another smiley face)

ROFL!

We had a fellow here in my sate named Ber Pearson. He was the owner and founder of Ben Pearson Bow and arrow factory. Archery was in at the time when I was a kid. Speaking of wine. I would have drunk wine with the Lord that day He turned the water into wine. Good post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I agree. What kind of snob would turn up his nose at Jesus' wine?
