This is completely heartbreaking, dreadful and horrific. However you have made it into something real and awesome. You so bravely took this piece and turned it around with your honesty and nailed it at the end. You showed exactly what could be wrong with society, that if he is in power, then it is ok. I can't tell you that I know what it is like. I do know what abuse is and it also comes in ones that don't show on the outside, such as molestation, rape and even verbal and emotional abuse.
God Bless you for this brave and powerful post.....MariVal, you are worth so much more than what you have lived. You are loved and respected by so many and should be so very proud of what you have endured and conquered, obtained, and now are teaching thru your experiences. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this, as there are so many who need to read this. You, my friend are Awesome!!!!!
I just went back and read your authors notes, and if this was not you, I apologize for assuming. However, it makes me salute you the same for caring enough about other women. One way or another, you are simply awesome for doing this!!

Thank you, Devi. I was abused by my first husband but nothing like in the poem that is fictional. It's inspired by a book by Stephen King, my favorite writer. It was for my Finding Your amuse club event and for the contest. I'm well aware of wife battery because I worked as an advocate/counselor for victims of violence.

Yes, the topic is particularly real in the UK where police are very much in the firing line (in more ways than one) right now. Your fine verse starkly and dramatically illustrates the stages of abuse, each of which might have triggered a warning to someone. Sadly, it often doesn't happen and things have to get to crisis point. Excellently portrayed here in this moving story. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie

Yes, the topic is particularly real in the UK where police are very much in the firing line (in more ways than one) right now. Your fine verse starkly and dramatically illustrates the stages of abuse, each of which might have triggered a warning to someone. There is so much spousal abuse that it is phenomenal, Gypsy. The picture was wonderfully great. Your words found a solace in my heart, imagine a world of non-violent spousal abuse. You are absolutely correct, when children are involved it definitely makes it harder. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

Sometimes there are things that need to be brought forward another time swept under the rug and forgotten.
Domestic violence is real whether it's a police officer or a mentally ill husband.
There are many ways to get help in there are many remedies for the beating person problem is the weakness posted enforced within your soul as the victim will not allow you to protect and save yourself.
The only way out of course is death.
This was well written rich in Theme and Imagery.
It also read well and flowed well with no Grammar Issues.

Is this based on the Stephen King book? I didn't read any work by him except his "On Writing" book. I keep seeing how these battered women lying to protect their tormentors. It's so sad.

Yes the poem is inspired by a Stephen king book. He is my favorite writer.
Battery It's a cycle of violence. Most women have nowhere to go and are afraid the abuser will kill them if they leave. Many have children to consider. The cycle is love--->abuse--->repentance--->love....repeate.
