Take me back to long ago days, when life was simpler and fuller, and kids had jobs to do. not sitting on a phone or a computer, talking to the invisible friends who write back. this was good.

Or the errand girl. I was a courthouse runner for a while as a part of my job. I ran important documents from the public defender's office to the courthouse several times a day. A delightful poem of the speedy helpers. I must say, your medicine delivery job sounds much more urgent. :))

Sending you my best today as always and best for your day.

Ah. . . an ode to the errand boy. What an interesting choice of topic Barry.

This is well written, portrayed, and displayed. (Yeah, I rhymed it).

Good writing.

Thanks for the review Doug. Congratulations also on your rhyming achievement Lol.
Yes I was an errand boy. Delivering medicines to older clients. Rode a lot of miles over the two or three years I was doing it. You take care and have a great day.

This brought back memories of deliveries from drugstores. Newspapers tossed into flower beds.
KoolAid stands, pizza delivered on a bicycle.
Church picnics. Drive in movies. Roller skating rinks.
Thank you for that stroll down memory lane. Due to your poem. Karen

Your words give a voice to those who were and are errand boys. It is a much needed job. You have a strong steady beat in your words that captures the meaning of this job. I like the line" the ever faithful- Gunga Din". It adds to the strength of your poem.

This is a lovely and nostalgic ode to a profession that has changed considerably since the period reflected upon by the poem. The rhymes and rhythm of the poem are good. One suggested edit: should it not be "when he disappears from its face"? The third person possessive pronoun appears to be missing.

Maybe a touch of hyperbole and exaggeration, but your point is made.
Before the age of telephones in every home, PCs and cell phones in abundance, and every teenager and adult their own car, life was quite different.
Nice poem.
The world 'had' become a sadder place.

Wonderful rhyming that flows well and doesn't sound forced. It's a well written poem with good form and composition. Great memories of a noble boy and his important deliveries.

Gunga Din sounds like an Indian name. Were you in India sometimes in your life?
I like this rhyming lines about the delivery boy.In our villages they were a fixture. Now of course the delivery boys are everywhere.

Never in India but have met many Indian people. Common saying around was the Kipling inspired " Your'e a better man than me Gunga Din".
Have a great day and take care.

This is an excellent poem. I enjoyed reading it. Your presentation is very good, too. You also use descriptive words that draw in a reader to your personal memory. Yes, often the smallest job is such an important one. Best wishes!
