Making friends crosses all age boundaries and it sounds like this lady and you had a special bond. A fine poem, well rhymed and metered and I enjoyed the sentiments here, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

This is one of the best and most uplifting friendship poems that I've read. How wonderful that you found a friend that needed you and who came when you needed her. This one has my vote.

This is an absolutely delightful poem from a grown up little girl, who had such an important friendship with a lovely old lady who became a 'family friend'.
I remember as a young man finding old ladies totally fascinating - for the wonderful tales they would tell. They were my first true historians - several of my mother's elderly sisters, but also 'maiden aunts' when on holiday in a variety of hotels. All of them genteel and charming - probably smelling of lavender too.

Rhyming couplets in quatrains using iambic tetrameter. Perfect. [Worth removing the word 'with' in v.2 line 2, to make it scan] The verse moves along effortlessly and is a complete delight as a story.

Thank you for this lovely memory.

Paul

I think this is quite wonderful. The elderly have much to offer to children. Just ask grandparents!

The color, font, and picture were splendid. This piece just makes the reader feel good. Thanks for sharing this!

'They're in town'? 'I knew I'd have'? The first might have been intentional.

But your rhyme and rhythm are immaculate. This is sweet and gentle and such a happy poem. You tell your tale with innocence and light. It should win, surely.
