This is an excellent story chapter. I enjoyed reading it. Your presentation is good. You use descriptive words that draw in a reader with interesting dialogue too. Best wishes!

Another good chapter, with Ben infiltrating into the prostitution problems in San Francisco. I meant to mention it before, I like the way you add brand names, i.e., the Levi factory, to your novel. It adds authenticity, as does your historical accuracy. (I don't even know how accurate it is, but it FEELS accurate. Was there a fear of rat infestations bringing the plague to the U.S.?

Yes, on both counts - Levi Strauss in San Francisco and the rats and grave removals. The grave removals were based on the rats, but became a reality only due to the corrupt land deals.
    Thank you.

Sounds like Halleck will make a run for mayor. Interesting that he didn't want to campaign.

That poor beleaguered city of San Francisco. Not only is there wanton corruption, but rats spreading the plague, and sex trafficking too. Ben certainly has his work cut out for him here. He does has a way of making the right connections to help him. This was a good, informative chapter which read well. - Jim

I love seeing all the iconic San Francisco references in these stories - like the Levi Straus factory here. Gives the history of the city some perspective.

Times have not changed, regarding kidnapping women and selling them into prostitution and slavery.

A lot of research is going into this book, Wayne. I commend you on this, as I know how much work it is to read the historical facts and then weave them into a story.

I owe you a six - when I have one - for all the hard work you're putting into these chapters.

This is another excellent chapter. God works in mysterious ways. I admire the strength of Ben's faith. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

What a horror story for those poor little girls. Absolutely terrifying. So much evil a corruption marks history. Just as well God raises up men like Ben. Such things must break God's heart. Well written.

Ben is a crusader again and is there to help free more women/girls from such a horrible life. It's interesting that you have mentioned the Chinese Exclusion Act. The loophole was called he "chow mein" loophole because if Chinese immigrants were allowed to enter the country if they worked in a Chinese restaurant.

I was criticized (even though I'm Asian) for trying to capture accents, so beware that you could get some objections as racial anything is so sensitive.

But here are my two cents. "Kim" is most commonly a Korean last name so I wouldn't use that. Maybe Hao or Guo or Qian. As for the derogatory term Round Eyes, that doesn't work either. I think Asians value "round eyes" and many Chinese have large eyes so the insult doesn't work there. Instead, the more well known Chinese slang for westerner is "gweilo" meaning ghost.

As usual there is lot going on in Ben's life and he never hesitates if he feels God is leading. I was surprised by all the rats being brought into the city with material. I sure that cloth has a lot of holds in it I wonder if cats can be around rat poison. Would they eat the poison as well of if they ate poisoned rat that wouldn't be healthy either.

Ben continues to work as hard as possible to make life better for as many as possible. You give us a glimpse into San Francisco and its corruption as well as Ben's stubborn concern and willingness to put himself into danger to accomplish the Lord's work.
Well done.

I think you are missing a quotation mark here:
Clyde thought a minute. (")That is an issue, a present issue.

I know there is a tendency in the Chinese culture to cull girls, for some reason it is a shame to have girls, and they still will kill girl babies, but it threatens to unbalance the future population, particularly with the one baby programme, well done Wayne, blessings Roy
Footnote : There is a propensity to use drug instead of dragged, it sounds very incongruous when spoken, so I copied this article:
Dragged" and "drug" are sometimes used interchangeably. However, the correct past tense of "drag" is "dragged." "Drag" is a regular verb, which means you add "d," "ed," or in this case "ged" to make it past tense. "Drag" becomes "dragged."
