Awesome story Kay!' it is hard to hear the cruelties of war. But without them we cannot fully appreciate our freedom. The wonderful men and women who went to fight these wars deserve such honors. My dad lied his way at 15 into help his mom feed his siblings when his dad died. I can't imagine a 15 year old seeing what he saw back then.

That's a difficult story but you tell it well and clearly with words that inform readers about something that is not well known. My own father (who lived past 99 years old), was a merchant marine whose ship was captured. He was a prisoner of war, got malaria, and after he was released from the hospital, he created an escape for his crew. They were held on Dekar in Africa. British allied soldiers navy picked them up off the shore of Africa and brought them north to question them then let them go. My pen father who was older because I was youngest of large family. I have such respect for any service people and especially those who've gone through war. Thank you for sharing this interesting and true story.

Hey, Alexandra. Why don't you write your Father's story? You could enter a contest with it. Thank you for reading my account of the nurses who never came home. War is cruel, my dad told me how cruel. He served 4 years in New Guinea and told me about the torture and beheadings the Japanese carried out. Funnily enough, they are now our allies. Blessings, Kay xx

I am speechless here. I applaud you for giving these nurses and the soldier a voice. It is amazing that this nurse survived, it must have been so horrible for her. Excellent writing and a story that needs to be told.

I've seen the Japanese invasions even romanticized recently, and underplayed in some movies.
The Germans are more made to look like ignorant dunces which they were not.

Ah, yes but the Japs were experts at torture, hated women, and had had thousands of years to hone their skills. Dad served in New Guinea for 4 years and he hated them. Now they come to our country and there is still a bad feeling about them. Thank you, K.

I am glad you have focused on contributions of these Australian women during the war. I know there are many, many more stories to be told.

The Japanese were just as bad as the Wehrmacht. Dad served in New Guinea for 4 years and he hated the Japs. Now, they come here as tourists and we still have reservations, they are so damn aggrogant. Pleased you wrote about your servicewomen. Did you post it long ago? K xx
