I love your writing here, Mary! You do portray a rather Laurel and Hardy couple. But good for you for having a go and not being too deterred by those nosy neighbours. The thing is, it's so satisfying when you can do it yourself but I think you're right - treat yourself to a landscaper next year and then you can sit down and watch him/her with a nice cup of tea:)) Take care Debbie

Mary, you are a scream and determined. Sweet friend, do hire some help. My front yard was dug up, a long story, and it's never recovered. I understand.
A delightful post that always makes me smile.

Thank you Sally, for your kind review. Interesting discovery, my mini chainsaw will not cut into human flesh! I am looking into getting some help (or having hourly Amazon Jungle tours!) Take care and thank you again.

Most welcome!

Honestly, you hit a rock didn't you?
Too funny. It is amazing how mundane, supposedly simple things, can turn out to be so complicated.
I do believe technology is leaving some of us behind. Fun read.

This is an excellent story. I enjoyed reading it. Your entire presentation is good. You use descriptive words that draw in a readers and bring them through your lawn journey. Your neighbors should move your lawn. lol
Best wishes!

The moral of this little essay really is how important it is to read instructions. Mechanical things don't come that easy for me either, and I just had to turn my John Deere 105 over to them for a repair on a snapped mower engagement cable. Simple things like changing the oil and changing the battery and sharpening the blades and replacing the mower belt I can do. I thought you related the whole scene with self depreciating good humor and I liked the personality of the writing. We have all had these moments. estory

Thank you for your review. Your right in reading instructions, I tend to dive right into a project which cost more time than if I just sit down and understand what I am doing.
Looking forward to hiring someone next year!

Mary

Mary,
You've crafted an captivating story about a mundane task of mowing the lawn that is rich with humor. You describe your trials and tribulations with the right of amount of frustration. I remember having to mow the lawn in my youth and how many times it gave me problems. Your decision in the end was the right one. Let someone else complete the task as you lounge in your lawn chairs watching.
All the best,
Eugene

Mowing is too hard for us elders. Yes, hire someone. I had to laugh at your adventure because it sounds just like something I go through. It always takes me at least three tries to get anything right. I never know what to do with the leftover parts. lol

Lol. You have my sympathy. Your story was very well written and very humorous. That really is false advertising about the lawn mower. Is there any sort of warranty? If so I would take it back and demand a refund.

This is very amusing. Hiring a landscaper is a great idea. If you don't like the job he/she does, try another one. Your lawn sounds rather complicated with rocks in odd spots. The last time I mowed, I ran over the carburetor.
