You are absolutely right about this; but there are moments when there is no time for prayer or even thought in words -- it's act or die. If you already have such faith, the calmness it gives you will enable you to act correctly fast enough to survive, possibly without harm.
Thank you for your service to our country, during which you likely had more than one such experience, including the one that prompted retirement. God has always known your character, so He was there for you when needed.
My first such time was at age eight before I learned to swim. I had waded into knee-deep water at the edge of a lake, but my next step was into water well over my head. Fortunately, I remained calm, turned toward shore, and jumped to catch a breath of air before sinking again. I repeated that several times, in hope of landing on higher sand. After enough attempts, I did, and walked back onto the shore. My parents were not there, so I never told them what had happened.
My second was my 1990 "Icy Blind Curve Encounter" (in my Portfolio). It could have been a head-on collision killing a dozen people besides me, but my quick reaction within God's precise timing saved us all.
My third time was just a year ago, as described in "Earth Angels Among Us" (still at the top of my Portfolio). As I could feel my life ebbing away while I lay on the floor, I did not ask God for more time. Instead, I simply thanked Him for the nearly eighty healthy years He had given me. Sally was one of the Earth Angels here at FanStory who prayed for me.
Congratulations on your win in the 5-7-5 Contest. I voted for this post at the time, but did not get back to review it until now. Sally and I have become friends because I have been catching the errors made by her speech-to-text equipment as she writes her books and stories, since she can't see them. I am here now because she told me she is the woman you so kindly mentioned in your Notes for this post. Your 5-7-5 was already Six-worthy, but knowing the connection to Sally clinches the bolt.
Superb, and aptly illustrated.
I have looked through your Portfolio and seen enough to justify becoming your Fan. I'll do that in a separate PM. :)) -- Mike

Thank you so much, Mike. You are very kind, especially concerning Sally. She really is such an angel and has been a Godsend to me with her advice, prayers, and support. Any friend of hers is a friend of mine. I appreciate this awesome review and your extremely wise words.

You are most welcome, Douglas. I spend at least ninety-five percent of my time here at FanStory helping other writers improve -- sometimes far into the night. (I have been doing that since my last year of high school in 1960.) I love my job. Sally has been my top "client" ever since I learned her vision was fading away, but there are several others.
My father was the model I followed in calmness, respect for others, zero prejudice, unique creativity, and loving kindness.
Now that I am your Fan, I'll be reading all you write; however, time restricts my reviewing to about six per week, so I scatter my Sixes among the best posts I find each week. You write well enough that you'll be included from time to time. :)) -- Mike

Never hurts to add another star. I can see why this won. We are in need of many Davids, backed by a host of warrior angels. They've had my back numerous times. Praise the Lord for sending them.

Lovely biblical reference, subtly alluded to in both the words and in the photograph. Taking a symbolic significance from the story of David and Goliath is clever. Well done and good luck.

Bing-o poet. You hit the nail on the head with this. The subject matter aside this is a very well-crafted 5-7-5. It's not haiku-like but a true 5-7-5 the way its supposed to be written.
Bravo and best wishes. Really looking forward to finding out who this is.
