Thought-provoking piece that we can relate to. Siege of herons - siege of emotions. Sorrow overflows when things are left behind. Beautiful haiku.

I enjoyed reading this very much. Even though it is sad as blue has been left by his community, it is an apt observation with a terrific satori line.

Wonderful reading today. :)

Very timely, We have a conservation area nearby and I knew there was a lone heron there, but never saw him. Yesterday, there he was high in a tree sitting there by himself. His name is Henry.
I enjoyed this read.
Best wishes,
Mary

Beautifully composed and realized, Gypsy.

There is a graceful quietness to the Great Blue Heron, their essence you have captured.

The presentation evokes solitude of thought, and a reflection of self, often difficult to look at. By taking the time to do so, we can heal.

Thank you for this offering.

This poor Blue Heron spends a lot of his time in sorrow. I'm starting to worry about him. I guess he lost his mate. But he does make for a beautifully written poem that we get to enjoy.

-Very nice images and presentation, Gypsy.
-The heron is one of my favorite birds.
-You wrote a good poem about it.
-Effective nature imagery describing the heron
who has left the group behind.
-A good satori line, as well.
-We usually have a heron where we are,
and you often see it like this one. I see
it as very peaceful. They can stay in one place
for quite a while.

What an appropriate time for this haiku! I went for a "wheel" around our building today and there was a magnificent blue heron1 Whast a majestic creature! Now for the Maya Angelou quote:
"The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise."
-- Maya Angelou

Interesting poem in that it brings in a more emotional tone for a great blue heron. It makes the reader wonder what kind of siege was going on before. I can imagine wolves or coyotes going after birds like this one. I like the phrase 'knee deep in sorrow.'

A siege is a group of herons.... they migrated and left the heron behind.

That is really helpful information. I always forget the variety of collective nouns that get used with birds and animals.

Beautifully presented as always. It must take you so much time. A lovely take on this beautiful bird. It's great how you apply a character and a story to it and the last line is superb. Then I read the note and another level was added. I learn new things every day. I did not know about a siege. So clever.

Please will you read my 'FanStory Japanese Poetry Forms'. And let me know what you think. I had you in mind when I wrote it!

This is a sad post and I see herons in the park, they stay still and blend into the reeds, they are magnificent birds and fine hunters, I enjoyed your few words, love Dolly x x x
