Ben is trying to pretend-fit in this scramble new world with the hope of making the wrongs right and saving some souls in the process:) Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Every human endeavour so quickly leads to corruption. Well, Ben has made himself another enemy by calling out the mayor in public, but apart from needing extra eyes he will certainly have angelic protection as he continues to do God's will and stand up for right.

Good for Ben to be able to pepper the corrupt mayor with questions - not for answers but to reveal what has been really going on. Hope the mayor faces the consequences of his corruption.
I enjoyed your introducing the literary figures into your story. This time, they are not in court trial having to face accusations by characters who were killed off in their books!

A young man such as Ben following God's call back in those days needed eyes in the back of his head. These days, he would need four extra eyes and a huge arsenal. Thanks for sharing.

This is another excellent chapter. It seems like our political situation happened in San Francisco. The mule story at the end was great. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

This was a very interesting chapter, Wayne, as we learn about SF politics and policing. Sounds like a very precarious situation. Vigilantism, although it may sound fine in theory, seldom works out as planned, and you've shown us how it often leads to corruption.

Once again, Ben Forest Gump Persons meets famous people during his travels. I love it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"'51 there was the first of the Committee of Vigilance. Their concentration was on the gangs." - I had to read this a few times until I got it. It was easy to miss the ' in front of 51 to know it was short for the year. It might have been a little clearer to have said, "In '51, there was..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the following 3 paragraphs, something didn't quite make sense:

[Ben nodded agreement. "Almost like when you ask for applications, you should never hire those who apply."

"Or those who'd been arrested for violent crimes the week before."

Ben snapped his head around to see Henry respond by nodding the truth of it.] - Ben says the first one, then presumably Henry says the second one, but in the third one is Henry responding by nodding at his own statement? Or was it Ben who said the second one and Henry the first one, in which case, I wouldn't put "Ben nodded agreement" together on the same line as the quote.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the governor signaled his aid that he was ready to leave - "aid" should be spelled "aide" here.
    Thank you.
    The nodding part 'was' hard to follow. Thank you for pointing it out.
    Hard to imagine how fluid it was at the writing, as well as the read through. Grrrrr.
Ben meets some interesting people and finds that Samuel Clemens can talk a story as much as he can. California has a lot of less than honest people that need to hear the words that Ben says. You have one sentence I don't understand: . . . not a flection of the borrowed . . .
So now Ben is taking on the big wigs of a big city. Sometimes that gets you killed, especially in that era. He always seems so at ease with every situation - like, "I'll figure it out with God's help when the times comes."
We'll see if he figures it out (my guess is that he will) and how he will handle this new situation.
I think my knowledge of American history and social conditions is inadequate to analyse adequately this post. If you want it to appeal to an international audience, I think you will have to be more explicit in your writing. kay
Ben is bphobnobning with the normal folk, and waiting for the Lord to move the situation, he is a relaxed man of God, knowing he's not perfect but seemingly willing to do whatever God, which is the only way to serve God, good understanding of the ministry of men Wayne, well done, blessings Roy
