Gretchen, I am doing a little snooping in your portfolio but fell in love with this piece. This is powerful and is so very meaningful to me, as it reminds me of when my brother was killed in a car accident. The state trooper who was on the scene of the accident first said that my brother had told him that for the first time in years, he had no pain. However he then said that he was holding my mother's hand and she was there to help him make the transition. Which seems to be so much of what you are writing about here. This is awesome, and yes I can see why you have such an attachment to your characters. This was perfectly awesome. Thank you so much.
I do have a silly question for you. I am taking it that your last name is Hargis? Do you by any chance happen to have a relative who works as a comedian in Branson? There is a guy named Hargis, who is hilarious. And not sure if that is his first or last, or maybe even stage name, but just had to ask.
Thanks again for the wonderfully enlightening read!

I believe there were two branches of Hargis families. I'm not familiar with anyone there but who knows. Somewhere down the line, we are all related, aren't we?
I've heard too many transition stories about departed loved ones coming to the dying ones for it not to be true. Makes the sting of death just a little less painful to hear those things. I'm excited for Sunday. Lol. Gretchen

No, it's not syrupy at all. Death is nothing but going to sleep, and then opening your eyes in a different place. What a wonderfully written chapter. Is this the final chapter?

Have a great day, and God bless.

You describe the moment of death so well. The imagery of the scene you set up is so clear and emotional. You made me cry again. I like how you describe that moment when you have to let go of the present so you can be with the people you love as they wait for you. I like this imagery....a distant beach close but pulling her away from the.

Does this mean we don't know what happens to Jameson after Iris dies? I hope not. I look forward to the next chapter.

I think one of the most important thing to those of us who lose someone we love is knowing they are no longer in pain and are in a better place. I don't know why I never have a six when I want one most. Thanks for sharing.

No, you did a good job describing Iris's last moments. Jamison is in pain, but Yes, Iris is in a much better place. I hope we get to help Jamison move on.

I'm in limbo , if you will. (comma next to 'limbo' and delete extra space)

Ahhhh, we have finally come to the end. Will there be more of Jameson or is he finished, here, too? You probably have some more mileage in this if you want to? It has been a great story anyway.

I'm glad she's reunited with Lou, but of course, I feel so sorry for Jameson. He had such a short time with Iris. I have learned that we grieve for ourselves, not the one passing.

Gretchen,
So peaceful snd calm as Iris slowly drifts with Lou, her husband and friend for so many years. As Daniel awaits, Iris releases Jamesons hand and drifts upward towards heaven.

This was warm and so life like. Excellent closure with Iris.

Not syrupy. Not contrived. Consoling. Sad. Happy. A brilliant projection of what it might be like. The emotional impact is heightened by our familiarity with the characters, who have become old friends for each other and for us. The sounds are great. The limbo excellent. And then the dancing lines going flat. Assured and excellent. X
