Oh, Sally, this is fast moving. I absolutely love it. So much is happening at the same time, but I'm sure it will all come together in the end. It's wonderfully written, my dear friend. Ulla;)))

I knew Sally would kick his ass! I hope she finds the old man and gets him out of there. He might have started the fire, but he probably did it to attract attention and he doesn't deserve to burn.

Once again, suspense, authentic dialogues and fast paced action. My favorite line:

until only a trace of light remained in the house.

I could visualize that.

You are a genius with your dialogues and authentic scenes.

Looking forward to more!

You should feel proud Sal!! xoxo.

Good for the Blind Detective. That must have been a horrid awakening as to who he was, and it's just as well she had such good fighting skills. But now she and King have to get out fast. It's a measure of her character that she is still trying to save Fee.

Hi Sally,
Wow! Wouldn't you know it, that the Blind Detective & officers Jackson and King would knock on Mr. Hargraves' door, with Fee inside. I found it remarkable that they didn't seem to notice who he was. I imagined King barking outside when Fee was attacking Sally. Little did he know that the blind girl was like a cougar on the attack. She didn't need a gun. Fee didn't stand a chance. But he made all the mistakes of an escaped criminal. Instead of fleeing the vicinity altogether, he stayed in the town of Aspen Grove, first in the Catholic shelter, and then breaking into an old fellow's home, inviting altercation with detectives. Then, he went even further in his revenge, and began to rape Detective Sally knowing that her husband would be back shortly with a handful of cash. Crazy stunt! He's not thinking clearly at all.
Now, suddenly, Sally finds the house is on fire. I wonder what happened? She has to get Fee and Mr. Hargraves outside. If she gets Fee out and goes back in for the old man, Fee might get away unless Jackson comes back in time. What if Fee wakes up while Sally is inside the house? He might block the door so she can't get out.
Nicely penned, Sally! It will be interesting to see how you're going to tackle the rest of the story. Fee might still be able to get away. But I think he's not thinking clearly at all. He's doing too many stupid things.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Little did I know that in the next 24 hours our group would witness the extraordinary power of human strength and prowess in the line of duty, and would forever be changed. ~ Hi Sally, I love this leading line. How gripping!

I had no idea Sally could take on FEE with such skill!!! You go, Ninja Girl!!!

I know it had to have killed her husband to have to leave her behind in the hands of a madman while he helplessly left to get money.

I was shocked at the fire!! Wow, what a surprising touch. And... Sally tries to rescue FEE after all he's done. No one would blame her for finding her own escape, but we come to the message of the quotes at the beginning of your chapter, and, there you go, no matter what, she show's mercy!! Beautiful!!

This is one of my favorite chapters, and you know how I love them all!!

Take care,
Hugs,
Rhonda

You open this critical turning point chapter with two wise quotations.

The Maryland State Police set up check points to prevent Fee's escape from the area, Willa will be at the front desk of the precinct, and urges Tommy to be careful in the manhunt. Twenty officers and retirees showed up to help. Jackson tells Tommy why Sally needs no firearm.

Fee retrieved the hidden gun, then saw the police presence, so he backed away. He finds a handicap accessible house for sale, and discovers a broken basement window simplifying entry. He finds the wheelchair-bound old man who owns the house, wheels him into his bedroom, threatens him, pulls out the landline there to prevent a 911 call, and goes to search for useful items. Then he waits for evening.

The house turns out o be the last on Jackson and Sally's list for the day, so Jackson knocks on the front door and rings the bell. Disguised Fee, pretending to be Owen Hargrove's son, lets them in, but not King, claiming his father was highly allergic to dogs. Once the two detectives are inside, he closes the door, turns, and aims the gun at Sally to force them to put down their weapons, handcuffs, and cellphones. Then he orders Jackson to go to an ATM and withdraw as much money as allowed, and return with it as ransom. Accordingly, Jackson quickly leaves.

Lascivious Fee proceeds in attempt to satisfy his lust, but finds out the hard way that Sally is far tougher than he imagined. Within moments, he ends up on the floor, unable to get up. Then Sally smells smoke, and tries to drag Fee into the hall (though some readers might prefer she left him to burn). Thus, suspense exceeds what seemed to peak before.

Superb, aptly illustrated, and further proof of your storytelling skills.

You are most welcome, Sal. All your books so far have been great, but this one justifiably has gained the best response by readers. Though we all have preferences about what happens to Fee, we'll feel a bit let down when this one's suspense ends; and we'll miss splendid characters like Patience, whom you did not use excessively -- only when truly needed, which kept the story plausible. :))))) -- Mike
